Taisei Fukumoto Takes Center Stage in the Musical Drama “Sixteen People Living on a Deserted Island”

The acclaimed musical drama Sixteen People Living on a Deserted Island; ็„กไบบๅณถใซ็”Ÿใใ‚‹ๅๅ…ญไบบ is set to return to the stage, captivating audiences at the Nihon Seinenkan Hall in Tokyo from January 25 (Saturday) to February 2 (Sunday), 2025. Based on a true story from the Meiji era, this production tells a gripping tale of survival, resilience, and unity, offering a heartfelt exploration of the human spirit.

The story unfolds in 1898, when the sailing ship Ryลซsuimaru is caught in a ferocious storm and wrecked in the vast Pacific Ocean. The surviving crew finds themselves stranded on a barren, coral reef islandโ€”devoid of fresh water, food, and trees. With little more than their determination and camaraderie, the 16 men face seemingly insurmountable odds as they work together to endure and dream of returning home.

Captain Nakagawa rallied his men with these words:
โ€œFrom today onward, under strict discipline, the 16 of us must unite as one. We must remain strong-hearted, cheerful, and truly manly, living each day without shame.โ€

Determined to one day set foot on their homeland again, the crew began their life on the deserted island. Their first priorities were securing water and fire, building a lookout tower to signal for rescue, and establishing a sea turtle farm to sustain themselves.

As they adapted to their harsh new reality, they found ways to continue learning for future voyages, interacted with seabirds and seals, and reflected on the natural beauty around them.

Amid their desperate struggle for survival, they find ways to create moments of joy and connection, from constructing a sea turtle farm for sustenance to studying navigation for future journeys, all while embracing the beauty of their natural surroundings.

Will the 16 crew members overcome the odds and return to Japan alive?
