Kaito “Machu” Matsukura of Travis Japan is stepping into the spotlight as he takes on his first lead role in the upcoming drama series Tokyo Camouflage Hour.

The highly anticipated show premieres this January on ABC TV and TV Asahi, bringing Chiaki Matsumotoโs popular manga to life. Adding a fresh twist to this adaptation, the series is scripted by renowned comedian Hiccorohee, marking her debut as a drama writer.
The story follows Hiroto Utsunomiya, a shy, fair-skinned man from Yamagata who is suddenly transferred to bustling Tokyo. Hoping for a fresh start, Hirotoโs life takes an unexpected turn when he experiences a whirlwind โone-nightโ encounter with a sophisticated, older city woman. The narrative explores themes of love, self-discovery, and the bittersweet truths of urban life, blending sharp humor with heartfelt emotion.
Machu brings warmth and authenticity to Hirotoโa character who camouflages his insecurities while navigating the complexities of Tokyoโs fast-paced environment. Reflecting on the role, Machu shared, โWhen I heard about the offer, I was so surprised I immediately told my mom. Starring in a drama has always been a dream of mine, and Iโm so grateful to make it come true.โ

He also expressed his admiration for Hiccoroheeโs screenplay, โShe left an incredibly cool and charismatic impression on me. However, when we met for script readings, I found her to be very kind and heartwarming, which made me feel a bit flustered. Personally, I absolutely love how each episode endsโitโs always so intriguing.โ
When asked about how Hiroto came across to him, Machu shared, “Heโs someone who tries to camouflage his insecurities and put on a brave front, but when someone sees through him, heโs honest and straightforward. I found him to be a very pure-hearted young man.“
The series, described as a โbiting yet chill romantic comedy,โ captures the raw emotions and lies of modern city life through relatable characters and witty dialogue. Viewers can look forward to a fresh take on love and connection in the chaotic backdrop of Tokyo.
Machu’s message to fans: โThis is my first time starring in a drama series. Iโm fully committed to living as Hiroto Utsunomiya in this story. Iโll give it my all, so please look forward to it!โ
