SixTONES’ Jesse will return as Beetlejuice in the broadway musical “Beetlejuice”, which will be performed in Tokyo and Osaka, from May to June 2025.
The Broadway musical “Beetlejuice“ made a big splash when it premiered in Japan in the summer of 2023.
The news that the much-talked-about work, which was just performed on Broadway in 2019, would be staged in Japan with Jesse (SixTONES) in the lead role and Yuichi Fukuda directing, attracted a great deal of attention even before the opening of the show. The show closed to great acclaim as a funny and moving piece of entertainment. The show was a great success, with the audience clamouring for a repeat performance.
The musical “Beetlejuice” is based on the 1988 film by Tim Burton, known for his fantastic stories and unique colour palette, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Sweeney Todd. The musical version premiered on Broadway in spring 2019 and was nominated for eight Tony Awards that year, including Best Picture – Best Play – Best Music. With its comical storyline and illusions, outstanding sense of costume, make-up and art, and catchy songs, the musical was not only a smash hit on Broadway but also became a hot topic on social networking sites. It is currently touring in North America. In 2024, Tim Burton’s sequel film “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which depicts 35 years after Beetlejuice, will be released.
The story is about Adam (Ryo Katsuji) and his wife Barbara (Ayu Aika), who lost their lives in an accident and became ghosts, are trying to get rid of Charles (Keigo Yoshino), his girlfriend Delia (Jun Sena) and their daughter Lydia (Miisa Shimizu/Rena Yamazaki), who have moved into their house after death, with the help of bio-exorcist Beetlejuice (Jesse) to help.
Based on Beetlejuice‘s wild advice, Adam and Barbara threaten the residents, but for some reason, Lydia, who can see ghosts, offers to help Adam and his wife with her feelings for her late mother and defiance towards her parents. Lydia tells Charles and Delia about the house’s ghostly presence and persuades them to give up the house, but on the contrary, they see its value as a natural horned house.
Cornered, Lydia asks Beetlejuice for help, but Beetlejuice, who is planning to return to life in this world, goes berserk—.
