Snow Man’s Koji Mukai to Star in Thailand’s First BL Romance Comedy Led by a Japanese Actor

Snow Man’s Koji Mukai is set to make history as the first Japanese actor to star in a Thai drama, taking the lead in the upcoming BL romance comedy Dating Game (working title).

The drama, filmed entirely in Thailand, will see Mukai act exclusively in Thai, showcasing his linguistic and acting versatility. He will be joined by renowned Thai actor March=Chutavuth Pattarakampol, making for a highly anticipated pairing.

Bringing the series to life is a team of industry-leading creatives, including the minds behind Cutie Pie and Close Friend, two beloved BL dramas that have left a lasting impact on the genre. The project also features contributions from esteemed screenwriters such as Maya and the All-Write Team, ensuring a compelling and heartfelt narrative.

Dating Game tells the story of two individuals with differing values who, through a series of unexpected encounters, develop a deep and meaningful connection. Blending humor with poignant emotional moments, the drama promises to break cultural and linguistic barriers, leaving a lasting impression on audiences worldwide.

For Mukai, who is of Japanese and Thai descent, this project holds special significance. He is also set to appear in the Japan-Thailand co-produced film (LOVE SONG), scheduled for release later this year. With this upcoming drama, Mukai continues to embrace his Thai heritage, actively studying the language in preparation for filming. The series is set to begin production this spring in Thailand, with a domestic release planned for later in the year. Global expansion, including broadcasts in Japan and across Asia, is also in the works.

We are delighted to take on our first-ever Thai drama production at Avex Pictures. This story transcends cultural differences and aims to deliver romance and excitement to audiences across borders. I am overjoyed to be part of this project and to work with Koji Mukai and March Chutavuth. The love story between their characters is filled with heart-fluttering moments that will captivate fans. While writing the script, I often found myself blushing and getting emotional. This drama carries so much depth and emotion, and I hope the audience can feel it just as strongly as we do.
