The event began with a video recap of iconic scenes from the drama. When the talented Gordon Yang, appeared as host, the excitement in the venue grew, but Ren Nagase was nowhere to be seen. In response to murmurs from the audience shouting “Reeeeeen!“, Nagase appeared from behind the audience. To thunderous applause, he walked around the audience and onto the stage.
The talented idol and actor greeted the audience by saying “Da jia hao! Wo suyong lai lian! (Hello everyone! I’m Nagase Ren!)”, receiving another burst of applause from the audience. Nagase then spoke in Japanese about his first impressions of his arrival to the city and asked his fans if they could understand Japanese. The conversation then turned to the content of the drama.
He was asked about his role as Subaru and he answered: “I’m not the kind of guy who looks in the mirror and says he’s beautiful, but I think there are things where we are similar“. When Yang asked him what his favourite part of his body was, Nagase replied: “My nose, I guess!” to which Yang added: “I heard you have beautiful legs as well“, to which Nagase replied: “Where did you get that information from (laughs)”, but he hiked up the hems of the trousers to show off his beautiful legs. There were screams from the audience and the excitement was immediate.
This was followed by some clips reviewing the drama, which showed a collection of Subaru Fenix‘s craziest scenes. Recalling his famous lines such as “I’m beautiful today too, because I’m me” and “No wonder people fall in love with me with that face“, Ren Nagase looked a little shy and the audience burst out laughing. When asked if there was any improvisation during filming, he confirmed that “Most of the facial expressions and hand gestures were improvised“.
He also admitted regarding the most memorable scene for him: “At the end of episode 10, there was a scene where I had my first honest conversation with Tomoya (played by Nishihata Daigo from Naniwa Danshi) and as Daigo is also one of my best friends in private, I could empathise with him and put myself in the role without any problems“. In addition, video messages from co-stars were received and Nagase‘s behind-the-scenes stories from the filming were shown. His best friend Daigo Nishihata complimented him on his good taste in catering. Nagase, who was offered ochazuke (rice with oatmeal), said: “I like white rice and eat quite a lot of it“. When was asked if he would have liked to play another character in the drama, he replied: “I would like to play Narita-san. If I were to play him, how would I play a boss who is good at his job? I would like to try my hand at it“. When asked who had the most NG scenes, Nagase replied: “Is it Daigo?” then he explained: “He was so amused by my comedy acting that he gave out about 10 NG scenes (laughs)”.
After the drama-related questions, the next part of the event took place among various games where the reward for the winner was to win a souvenir from Taiwan. The first game was a coffee bean carrying game with chopsticks, where participants had to carry 20 coffee beans from a plate to a cup with a maximum time of one minute.
Although Nagase had a hard time completing the challenge, he did his best to win. In the next game, they had to fill a cup with three pingpong balls in the same time limit and the final challenge was “featherboard lifting”, if them could launch the featherboard ten times in a row in one minute then they succeeded. Nagase cleared this game with ease and tasted the prize, a pineapple cake, for the first time. He said: “This is delicious! The sweetness fills my mouth!‘ He was so excited.
Finally, Nagase taught the fans the choreography to the theme song “Heart“, the last King & Prince‘ single and music theme for the drama, and the venue was filled with a feeling of unity. The fans responded to Nagase‘s message of wanting to return to Taiwan with enthusiastic applause and a commemorative photograph was taken together. The fan meeting was a valuable opportunity to further strengthen the ties between Nagase and Taiwanese fans.
The event will be included as a bonus video on the Blu-ray and DVD box set. In addition, the 12 episodes of the TVer series have been viewed more than one million times each. The final episode will be available until 11pm on 8 August.
