SixTONES‘ Jesse has been selected as the new face of the popular ice cream product manufactured and sold by Lotte, called “COOLish”. The new commercial, titled “Vanilla Dragon” will be airing starting on April 23rd.
The TV CM was created to show how the coolness and sweetness of the product runs down your throat and deep into your body, leaving you feeling refreshed and comfortable. The TV CM tells the exhilarating fantasy story of Jesse‘s battle with the Vanilla Dragon, a giant white dragon that is the embodiment of the product’s vanilla ice-cream. The dragon enters his mouth, an unrealistic development, to which Jesse responds with his best performance.
On the day of filming, which was blessed with cloudless and sunny weather, Jesse arrived on the set looking fresh in blue jeans and a white shirt with a collar and three-quarter sleeves. When he was introduced by a staff member as “This is Jesse!”, Jesse mimicked the staff member and said, “Yes, I’m Jesse (laughs)!’” making the staff on the set laugh and creating a friendly atmosphere.
The new TV CM is a fantasy story about a vanilla dragon, and Jesse was required to have the acting skills to react to the dragon while imagining its presence and movements on the set. One of the most memorable scenes was when he looked at the vanilla dragon with surprise and said, “What the hell is that?”.
Although his face was not shown in the scene, he carefully discussed the content of the scene and acting with the director before filming, and during the actual performance, he expressed his surprise with his whole body, including body language and hand gestures.
By doing so, the tension in his voice increased and the director gave him a one-shot OK: “Your voice is perfect!“. Jesse said “I’m glad!” with a relaxed and relieved face.
After the shoot, an interview and PR project was conducted. Jesse, who loves the product so much that he says, “I’ve been drinking it since before I was born (laughs)”, talked about moments in his life as an entertainer, especially when he exclaimed, “Kimotiiiii~!’ (laugh)”
In addition, Jesse, who is proud of his outstanding singing ability, talked about a recent moment in his life when he shouted “Kimotiiiii~!” (it feels good!). He took on the challenge of a project in which he shouted it out with his voice.
He instantly understood the purpose of the project and said, “Aaaaahhh~! Like this?” and using the product as a microphone, he immediately demonstrated his beautiful voice, sounding like an opera singer. The staff on site were amazed at the exhilarating shouts, but also burst into laughter at the content of Jesse‘s shouts.
INTERVIEW WITH JESSE AFTER THE FILMING FINISHED
How do you feel about being the new commercial character?
I am extremely happy. Thank you so much. I have been drinking Coolish since I was a child, so I was surprised when I heard (about appearing in the commercial). I was very happy because there have been many people who have appeared in the commercials in the past. I’ve been drinking Coolish since before I was born (laughs).
What were your impressions of the commercial shoot and what scenes left a lasting impression?
There’s a scene when I say: “Ha~, it’s hot outside.” This time it was shot in February, so it was actually very cold, but I thought it looked quite refreshing. Also, I met the Vanilla Fairy (a sub-character on the commercial). It’s been my dream to meet the vanilla fairy since I was little. (The child actors who played the Vanilla Fairy) are 12 years old. (After filming) I told them to be careful going home (laughs).
This time the shoot was outside, in a rather “Kimotiiiii~!” situation.
Jesse, who likes the product, in what situations do you usually drink it?
Usually, after I’ve worked up a sweat at a live or something, the first thing I do in the car is stop at a convenience store. At that time, I always get a “Coolish”. I massage the product well with my hands, and when it’s just right (the softness of the ice cream), I drink it vigorously… and shout “Kimotiiiii~!” I can’t shout too loudly (in public places), so I hide and say “Kimotiiiiii~!” (laughs).
Incidentally, in what situations and places would you like people watching the commercial to enjoy the products?
I would be happy if the children who have studied hard at school could go to the convenience store and pick it up, and I hope all the office workers could buy it at the convenience store after work and enjoy it before getting on the train. In my case, I go to the gym, enjoy the sauna, and afterwards I get it at the convenience store and enjoy it!
There was a scene where Jesse was outside looking hot, saying, ‘Ha – it’s hot.’ In April, when the TV commercial goes on air, the temperature will gradually rise, so what does Jesse do when she wants to cool off a bit?
Anyway, I move my whole body, sweat it out, take a cold dip and finish with Coolish! That’s how it goes. After all, sweating refreshes me in many ways.
Jesse, throughout your entire personal entertainment life, is there a moment when you particularly shouted, “Kimotiiiii~!“?
There are a lot of them… It takes three days (to give an answer). For example, when we appear on variety shows, of course the TV audience is important to us, but when the cameramen and film crew laugh at us (during filming), we say “Kimotiii~!”. Also, Downtown’s Masatoshi Hamada, whom I go out to eat with in private, laughs at me with all his might. I think that’s the best “Kimotiiiii~!”.
There are times when I don’t feel good (when I can’t get a good laugh during the filming of a variety show), but now I have a stronger mentality and I feel good when people (around me) laugh at me (laughs).
