TBS has announced that a new drama series, “DOPE Narcotics Control Department Special Investigation Section“/「DOPE: Mayaku Torishimaribu Tokusoka」, starring Kaito Takahashi (King & Prince) and Tomoya Nakamura will air in the Friday 22:00 pm drama slot, starting in July.

Based on the novel of the same name by Chiaki Kisaki, who won the 20th Dengeki Novel Award, the story is setting in the near future, when a new drug becomes rampant in Japan. Yuto Saiki (Kaito Takahashi) saw his mother become addicted to the drug. Due to his experience, he has become a rookie narcotics agent to eradicate drugs. One day, he is suddenly transferred to the highly secretive “Special Investigation Unit of the Narcotics Control Department”. The department’s existence is not even known by the general public. At this Special Investigation Unit, he teams up with Teppei Jinnai (Tomoya Nakamura). Even though they have totally different ways of thinking, they solve mysterious cases together caused by dope

Takahashi, who will star in a TBS drama for the first time, plays Saiki, an honest young man with a sense of justice who believes that criminals should be given a chance at rehabilitation. After being saved by a police officer during a terrorist attack he experienced as a child and facing his own mother’s constant struggle with drug addiction, he decided he wanted to pursue a career helping people and became a narcotics agent. Kaito Takahashi, who has starred in dramas such as “Daga, Jyonetsu wa Aru!” (Nippon TV) and “95” (TV Tokyo), will show a new story of self-improvement in this new dorama.
Meanwhile, Nakamura Tomoya plays the unconventional instructor Teppei Jinnai, who unlike Saiki has a more rational side to those who use drugs, his fora an incident he suffered in the past. Since his debut, Nakamura has played a wide range of roles, from serious to comedic, so be sure to check out the powerful action he displays in this film.
Comment by Kaito Takahashi:

My character is a rookie narcotics officer who has just been transferred to the Special Investigations Division. He is a person of integrity with a strong sense of justice, but he also has a human aspect and weaknesses of his own and this I think is a great thing in itself.
When I received the offer was a little worried, I wondered if would be the right person for this role, but when I heard that would be working with Tomoya, I was incredibly relieved and said: “Please!”. On set I get all kind of food from him every day, he’s really like a mentor to me (laughs).
When I first read the script, I was excited and anxious at the same time, wondering “What will happen?”. There’s an action scene in every episode and as I was reading I was wondering how they were going to shoot it, so now that I’m on set I’m learning something new every day as I’m shooting.
There have been days where we’ve shot over 100 shots, and I think as we get into the second half of filming the action will get more and more spectacular and therefore more difficult, but the atmosphere on set is very nice.
It’s a summer drama that will turn up the heat even more, but I think it’s a really great series that will also warm your heart, so be sure to watch it! thanks!
Comment by Tomoya Nakamura:
The drama contains action scenes and a lot of computer-generated elements, I think the key is how convincing it is to make it something you can’t look away from. Although there have been other doramas with incredible action and cool computer-generated graphics this drama combines both, so I think it’s an ambitious work where the central pillar of the drama is how my words and actions totally opposite to my partner’s will stimulate Saiki, and his choices in response, so I felt I was given a very rewarding role.
At first glance, Jinnai seems flighty and unmotivated, and doesn’t even seem to do much research about the cases, but he also has a “past”. I think this past is the second pillar of the drama, along with Saiki‘s growth. He is quite an exhilarating and dramatic character and, of course, also a key person.
Kaito, who plays his partner is adorable not only because of his personality and humanity, but also simply because he is a hardworking young man. At first, Jinnai is quite rough with Saiki, but behind the scenes, I pamper Kaito as if he were a hand-kneaded hamburger steak (laughs).
I hope to create a dorama that people can look forward to every week as its broadcast approaches. Please take a look!
