Etro is pleased to announce the capsule collection “ETRO per Kaito Takahashi“, created in collaboration with Kaito Takahashi of King & Prince, ETRO‘s Global Brand Ambassador. This special Collection features 21 unique pieces that blend Takahashi‘s artistic sensibility with the timeless spirit of Etro.
Last April, King & Prince‘s Kaito Takahashi became Etro‘s first Japanese global brand ambassador, and now comes more news about this unique collaboration! It has been decided to launch the “ETRO per Kaito Takahashi” capsule collection next June, which will feature a line of paisley-themed items designed by Takahashi himself.
Paisley has been a beloved and characteristic symbol at Etro since the company’s founding. Takahashi‘s original paisley design is an important motif in this collection, and as it resembles a date palm seed, it represents the “possibility that exists within a seed“. The hands depicted within the paisley motif evoke images of germination and flowering, and also represent the partnership that is formed through hand-holding, inheritance and connection.
Inspired by the question “What would plants look like if they were human?“, this design expresses the way leaves, branches and vines grow from a cashmere seed, and superimposes it on human growth and social connections. The most symbolic of these is the hand incorporated into the paisley motif. The movement is reminiscent of germination and blossoming, but also contains meanings of collectivity, succession and connection, as in the formation of a society by “holding hands“.
Creative director Marco De Vincenzo commented on Takahashi‘s paisley design: “The paisley has always been a symbol of life. Kite’s interpretation of countless joined hands adds an additional meaning: that humanity can only thrive in unity. I find it poetic and inspiring“.
Takahashi had this to say about this special capsule collection:
“The paisley I drew will become an Etro piece. I’m still thrilled to be named global ambassador for the brand and I can’t believe I’ve been given such a wonderful opportunity.
The time I spent drawing my own paisley was full of happiness, like a dialogue between myself and Etro. And when I saw the finished pieces, it was a moment of ecstasy, as if something of me had taken shape, as if I had become part of Etro.
I put my thoughts into this print in the hope that the world will continue to be a place where we can hold hands, as we do today. I hope that those who have loved Etro in the past and those who will come into contact with Etro in the future will love this capsule collection and be eager to get their hands on it.”
The collection includes 21 items, including T-shirts, shirts, paisley NAS, fisherman’s hats, mini bags and charms. Item details will be announced on Tuesday 10 June.
Don’t miss this collection that combines Etro‘s legacy with Takahashi‘s creative sensibility!
