Ae! group Stars in Osomatsu-san Live-Action Sequel — With a Little Kansai Chaos and a Whole Lot of Love

“I hope we can turn it into something even newer, funnier, and more energetic.” — Seiya Suezawa

It’s official: the Matsuno sextuplets are coming back to the big screen—but this time, they’re doing it Kansai-style.

Ae! group, joined by Kansai Junior Takuya Nishimura, will headline the long-awaited sequel to the Osomatsu-san live-action film, originally brought to life by Snow Man in 2022. Slated for release in Spring 2026, the new film promises a fresh spin on the absurd comedy we’ve come to love—only this time with Kansai dialect, Kansai rhythm, and a whole new flavor of brotherly disaster.

And judging from the cast’s own words, they’re as ready as we are to fly like a firebird. Or… burn it down in classic Osomatsu fashion.

The cast of the upcoming live-action film 'Osomatsu-san' poses together, holding a large banner announcing the sequel. They wear brightly colored t-shirts, each labeled with their character names from the show.

The first Osomatsu-san live-action film made waves not only for its hilariously meta take on adulthood and failure, but for Snow Man’s unforgettable ensemble performance. Now, the torch has been passed—and no one is more aware of that weight than the new cast themselves.

“This is actually something we used to talk about quietly as Juniors,” shared Yoshinori Masakado, cast as the painfully cool Karamatsu. “Wanting all of Ae! group to act in something together… it was kind of a secret dream.”

For many members, the project marks not only their first lead film, but also a nostalgic return to stage-style acting, something they grew into through years of live performance. “Reading the script brought back a lot of memories,” said Ken Kojima (Ichimatsu), reflecting on Ae!’s past program THE GREATEST SHOW-NEN where they performed a new play each month for four years.

But it’s not just a dream for the group—it’s a test of their synergy. A new chemistry is brewing, especially with the addition of Takuya Nishimura, who joins the five Ae! group members as Todomatsu, the youngest (and arguably cutest) of the sextuplets.

“We’re six Kansai guys who are seriously good at messing around,” laughed Masaya. “If you throw in the cuteness that Ae! doesn’t usually have—aka Nishimura—it’s perfect, isn’t it?”

As a beloved Kansai Junior, Takuya has long been admired by fans and senpai alike for his sharp wit, charming presence, and unwavering dedication. Though younger than the Ae! members, he’s grown up in the same environment, shaped by the same Kansai humor and shared backstage history. Over the years, he’s been the cheerful little brother that Ae! group has openly supported and quietly cheered on. Now, watching him stand alongside them—not as a junior in the background, but as an equal cast member in a major film—is as heartwarming as it is exciting.

“I haven’t acted alongside Nishimura since our debut,” Richard shared, reflecting on their reunion. “So I’m glad to welcome him back as the youngest of the Kansai family.”

This casting doesn’t just reunite old friends—it reinforces what makes the Kansai branch of STARTO Entertainment so special. There’s a visible bond between these talents, a culture of mentorship and mutual respect that radiates beyond the screen. Seeing Takuya take his place among the chaos as the cheeky youngest of the Matsuno sextuplets, feels like a full-circle moment. And for fans who’ve followed both his and Ae!’s journeys, it’s a reminder that the Kansai spirit isn’t just about comedy—it’s about connection, too.

“I hope to infuse the project with youthful energy!” Takuya said. “Since we’re all Kansai-born, I think there’s a vibe and expressiveness only we can offer.”

Each member of the cast brings something hilariously fitting to the Matsuno roles:

  • Seiya Suezawa as Osomatsu — the irresponsible eldest brother who somehow always ends up in charge.
  • Yoshinori Masakado as Karamatsu — the delusional poser with too much confidence and too many leather jackets.
  • Masaya Sano as Choromatsu — the anxious voice of reason who’s rarely reasonable.
  • Ken Kojima as Ichimatsu — the deadpan cat lover with a permanent case of gloom.
  • Keita Richard Kusama as Jyushimatsu — the unhinged baseball-loving wild card.
  • Takuya Nishimura as Todomatsu — the manipulative baby-faced socialite with a hidden bite.

There’s something fitting about Osomatsu-san entering a new chapter just as the anime celebrates its 10th anniversary. The original 2015 reboot of Fujio Akatsuka’s Osomatsu-kun flipped childhood nostalgia into biting social satire, reimagining the brothers as chaotic NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). Now, in its live-action sequel, the absurdity continues—this time wrapped in Kansai sensibilities.

The group seems ready for the challenge. Richard admitted the surreal world of Osomatsu was right up his alley. “I watched the anime as part of preparing for this, and I really loved its surreal humor.” He explained and continued. “Jyushimatsu is a character who’s always smiling, which is the total opposite of my usual self, so that contrast is something to watch out for.”

Even Snow Man’s Koji Mukai (former Osomatsu) chimed in with a message saying, “I’m really looking forward to seeing the uniquely Kansai-style team dynamic that only your six can bring.”

Though the playful rivalry as a fellow Kansai person and close friend slipped through as he continued, “That said… while I do genuinely want to say “do your best!”, as someone who played Osomatsu, there’s also a part of me that doesn’t want to lose! (lol)”

In true Osomatsu fashion, this isn’t a gentle handoff. It’s a full-speed sprint into the next round of chaos.

What makes this sequel special isn’t just the cast—it’s the sense of unity behind it. Ae! group, debuting officially in 2024, has always been known for their high-energy performances and natural banter. Bringing their full Kansai love team onto the silver screen—alongside Takuya, another Kansai-born junior—feels less like a casting decision and more like a homecoming.

As for what fans can expect? According to Masaya, the Demon King of Chaos himself: “We’ll work together as the six siblings, aiming to deliver something even more powerful and fun!”

To kick off the excitement, a special video will be dropped on Ae! group’s official YouTube channel on June 11, 2025, offering fans a first glimpse into the wild world of Osomatsu-san Part 2!

So go ahead—mark your calendars for Spring 2026. Whether you’re a longtime Osomatsu fan or just in it for the Kansai charm, this movie is shaping up to be one big, beautiful mess.

And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
