On the 16th July, Kaito Takahashi appeared as an ambassador at the press conference for the new exhibition “HOKUSAI – It was all Hokusai’s work.”/ใHOKUSAI๏ผใใใถใๅๆใฎใใใใงใใใๅฑใheld in Tokyo. Kaito, who is an avid fan of manga and illustration, spoke openly about the influence Hokusai had on him.

Katsushika Hokusai is said to be the root of manga and anime, which are now an important part in Japanese entertainment culture and have also conquered the world. The exhibition will be held with the full cooperation of Urakami Mitsuru (Urakami Sokyudo), owner of 1700 volumes of “Hokusai manga“. The exhibition will present more than 300 works, including the 15 volumes of “Hokusai manga” from Urakami‘s collection, recognised as the best in the world for both quality and quantity, comprising illustrations from various reading books: “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji: The Great Wave of Kanagawa” (known worldwide as: The Great Wave); “One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji“; a masterpiece from his later years in which he called himself a “mad artist” and more. The three volumes, 102 illustrations and 16 original paintings will be exhibited for the first time in the world.

Kaito, who will also appear in the film “ลi, Oui” (release 17 October), which portrays the life of Katsushika Hokusai’s daughter, commented: “I was moved, because I felt we had a transcendental connection“. He also revealed that art was something very close to him: “I’ve been watching my sister draw since I was old enough to understand it, and I thought it was cool, so I’ve been drawing, watching things and creating a lot, so art is an essential part of my life“.
He also added: “I don’t have a long history of contact with Hokusai, but I am surprised in many ways to learn that the techniques of manga and the actual art have existed for more than 200 years” he also visited Urakami’s studio: “I have the impression that Hokusai lived a stoic and painful life, but when I saw Hokusai’s manga my impressions of him changed completely. I think he was a really funny man who enjoyed drawing even when he was in pain and always wanted to entertain people“.

Kaito was so impressed by Hokusai that he commented: “I want to draw immediately. He is delicate and bold, but his composition is simple yet captivating. When I draw I also pay attention to the use of colours and composition, so this is a new learning experience for me. I felt so inspired that I wanted to draw as soon as I got home“. On the other hand, when Hokusai‘s “funny faces” paintings were presented, he commented with a wry smile: “Will it also influence my life as an idol? I don’t usually make funny faces…“.
