Kaito Takahashi of King & Prince and Hokuto Matsumura of SixTONES star in Marugame Seimen‘s new web commercials: “Kaito and Hokuto’s Udonut Day” autumn edition with Marron/chestnut flavour, and also the Halloween edition, which was released on 6th October!

Kaito Takahashi and Hokuto Matsumura try out different combinations in this new commercial.
The new web commercial, “Kaito and Hokuto’s Perfect Day for Udon Natsu” features Kaito and Hokuto in autumn-themed outfits happily stuffing their faces with the new “Marron/Chestnut Flavor”. Is the setting this time somewhere familiar to them? The two are captured harmoniously enjoying Marugame Udon Natsu in a space that feels like they’re at home!
This new commercial begins with Kaito visiting Hokuto while he reads a book and enjoys some Udonuts, testing his friend’s love for these succulent little bites. He asks him if he can guess the new flavour for this season, to which Hokuto, after taking a bite, answers without hesitation that it is chestnut flavour. Kaito then reveals the flavour he had been hiding behind his back, confirming that his answer was correct!
This time, the “#おうちで丸亀うどーなつアレンジ” and the Halloween versions have also been released. The web commercial begins with the two friends shouting “Infinite variations!” and shows them enjoying various variations, such as “American Dog Style” – a plain “Marugame Udonut” topped with sausages and ketchup, and “MochiMochiUdonut à la Mode” – a fruit mix and pudding topped with whipped cream. The Halloween version also introduces special Halloween-only variations, with Kaito dressed as the devil and Hokuto as Dracula.

Interview with Kaito Takahashi and Hokuto Matsumura
Q1. This web commercial was shot on a set modeled after a home. How was it?
Kaito: This was my third time working with Hokuti, so we were in perfect sync and I felt relaxed. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant, but this time the set felt like I was visiting Hokuti’s house, so I naturally relaxed. The sofa was incredibly comfortable! We’re both busy, so we don’t often get to meet up privately, so it was fun to be able to shoot at a relaxed pace.
Hokuto: We talked. There were a lot of gaps, after all.
Kaito: We talked about a lot of things!
Hokuto: This time, the theme of the shoot was enjoying “Marugame Udonuts” at home, and I learned a lot of different ways to prepare them through the shoot, so it was fun! What’s more, I was surprised to find that you can enjoy them not only in sweet flavors but also in savory flavors.
Kaito: That was surprising.
Hokuto: I was reminded once again that the unique appeal of Marugame Udonuts is that it can be enjoyed in a variety of everyday situations, whether as an after-meal dessert or a snack.
Q2. You tried our new fall product, “Marugame Udonuts Marron/Chestnut Flavor,” this time. What were your impressions after tasting it?
Hokuto: It was delicious!
Kaito: incredibly delicious!
Hokuto: This is incredible.
Kaito: I’m always impressed by the quality, but among them, there are some that seem to suit Japanese palates, such as those with candied chestnuts inside, or chestnut paste, or a flavor that makes you feel like you’re eating whole chestnuts.
Hokuto: The deliciousness of the “Marron/Chestnut Flavor” hits you first with the powder.
Kaito: That’s right.
Hokuto: I felt like the candied chestnut paste inside created the fragrant aroma of chestnuts in your mouth after a few minutes had passed.
Kaito: Also, because it’s deep-fried, the candied simmered ingredients on the outside have a crispy texture, and you can enjoy a variety of gradations of flavor.
Hokuto: The chewy texture suits it well.
Kaito: Definitely suits it!
Hokuto: Combined with the soft, fluffy flavor of the chestnuts was a combination that was so delicious I’d never tried it before.
Kaito: That’s right. And we can’t forget that this gentle flavor is unique to udon.
Hokuto: Ah! that’s right, that’s what is surprising.
Kaito: I’m always amazed by Marugame Udonuts!
Hokuto: Yeah. I was surprised to find out that it’s made from udon!
Kaito: It’s surprising!
Q3. In this shoot, the two Marugame Udonuts ambassadors tried out various Marugame Udonuts arrangements, but did you have a favorite arrangement?
Kaito: Marugame Udonuts are said to have a relaxing effect when eaten, and this time I introduced them with a few variations. It’s still hot, so eating Marugame Udonuts with vanilla ice cream was a nice twist.
Hokuto: That’s good. I think it’s wonderful.
Kaito: And then there’s the sausages and ketchup, which is surprising!
Hokuto: Well, they go really well together, don’t they?
Kaito: Exactly! And when you combine them, it’s like a corn dog, It really does change the genre quite suddenly. You can have something sweet, or something salty. And with fruit mix, pudding, and whipped cream, it feels a bit like a dessert.
Hokuto: It was delicious, It had a really luxurious feel to it.
Kaito: Did you have any recommendations, Hokuti?
Hokuto: You know, the one I absolutely loved was bell peppers, ham, cheese, and pizza sauce. It’s like pizza toast, but it’s not toast. I think the fact that it’s made with Marugame Udonuts makes it a great combination.
Kaito: That’s right. The texture is chewy and enjoyable!
Hokuto: The almonds, chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce, chocolate sprinkles, and whipped cream on top were also great, It was luxurious!
Kaito: Everyone loves it, right?
Hokuto: It’s a surprising amount, isn’t it, when you think about whether you can eat that at home?
Kaito: That’s true! It would also be fun to go shopping for ingredients to customize it. Maybe we could all get together, buy a bunch of Marugame Udonuts, choose our favorite ingredients, and have a party. That would be fun, and I’d love to find some delicious combinations that I didn’t introduce today, or even the ones I didn’t introduce today.
Hokuto: I think there are!
Q4. In this web commercial, you two are filmed enjoying “Marugame Udonuts Marron/Chestnut Flavor” at home, but I’d love to know how you two usually spend your “time at home”.
Hokuto: Just normally, on a day off.
Kaito: I have a really big speaker. So, I listen to my favorite songs, the ones I usually listen to, on the speaker, and I can really hear the depth of the sound.
Hokuto: Big speakers really make a difference.
Kaito: It’s completely different. I had no idea that sounds like this were being recorded! You can hear a different number of sounds, so I enjoy them at a volume that resonates with the bass and other sounds. If I do that, the day really flies by. It’s the most comfortable way for me to spend my time.
Hokuto: On my days off, I often meet up with friends around lunchtime, chat for 2-3 hours at a cafe, then go our separate ways, have a quick dinner in the evening and go to bed early – that feels really good.
Kaito: Really? Oh, I want to meet up with friends and get my housework done early. That’s the most fun, and it feels fast-paced too.
Hokuto: I want to meet up in the daylight instead of at night, maybe after lunch.
Kaito: I know what you mean, after finishing my errands quickly, I have so much free time at home. After meeting up with friends, having fun and going home. What do you do most?
Hokuto: Playing games!
Kaito: Oh! Are you playing games?
Hokuto: It’s the thing that has the least to do with work. It’s like I kind of escape there. I spend a lot of time playing games.
Kaito: It’s like I’m forcing my brain to switch off.
Hokuto: There was an amazing moment the other day, I was listening to my favorite radio show while playing games, with the TV on silent.
Kaito: That’s too busy, right?
Hokuto: I was eating dinner while doing all sorts of things. It was amazing, really, I was immersed in entertainment.
Kaito: But that’s the best. It’s not something you can do very often.
Hokuto: That was the best.
Kaito: That’s amazing.
Q5. The “Marugame Udon Marron/Chestnut Flavor” that you tried this time lets you enjoy the whole chestnut, a seasonal product that is truly “autumn-like.” Please tell us if there’s anything that you two consider “autumn of XX.”
Kaito: For me, it’s definitely “ginkgo autumn.”
Hokuto: Do you like ginkgo nuts?
Kaito: I love them so much! I wish they’d make them ginkgo flavored.
Hokuto: They’re delicious though.
Kaito: My father loved them, so is it in my blood?
Hokuto: Genetic? So there’s ginkgo DNA?
Kaito: Yes, there is! I love them so much, I eat them all the time. Ginkgo nuts!
Hokuto: Ginkgo nuts are around all year, but they’re exceptionally delicious in the fall, right?
Kaito: They’re exceptionally delicious. They get so plump, and I’m happy that I can eat them in restaurants and things like that. I wish they’d make them a little ginkgo flavored, Is there any?
Hokuto: Maybe “Autumn Outside”? I’m outside a lot! I go for walks all the time, I really do walk all day.
Kaito: You’re the type who likes to stay indoors, aren’t you?
Hokuto: Yeah!
Kaito: But it makes me want to go out…
Hokuto: I don’t do anything flashy or anything, but I do go outside. I walk all the way to places with lots of nature and pop into a cafe.
Kaito: Like insects. Heading for places with lots of nature?
Hokuto: I’m not going out to get nectar!
Kaito: Haha, is that not the case? (laughs)
Hokuto: Yeah, actually, I leave work around noon, eat dinner, walk again, pop into a cafe, walk again, eat dinner. And walk and walk, just daydream in a park or something, and sometimes I come home in the middle of the night.
Kaito: That’s amazing. You’re living like an artist!
Hokuto: Right. Living like an artist.
Kaito: See lots of nature and the city.
Hokuto: Right, but I don’t produce anything.
Kaito: Haha (laughs). An artist who produces nothing?
Hokuto: Matsumura Hokuto, an artist who produces nothing.
Kaito: That’s great, but also going out.
Hokuto: I like it!
Q6. The Halloween-like costumes seem to be a distinctive feature of this shoot. Do you two have any Halloween memories?
Kaito: Halloween memories… I really love driving past Halloween parties outside in Tokyo, where all kinds of people are gathered in costume.
Hokuto: Oh, I like it too!
Kaito: I’m not really ready for Halloween, but when I see that people “Wow, I wonder what they’re saying. They’re enjoying life,” I think. Then I go home.
Hokuto: I see. Ah, but I’m a little similar. When Halloween comes around, a lot of costume goods come out.
Kaito: Ah, like stores, and stuff.
Hokuto: For dressing up. I really enjoy watching that. It’s like, out of the year, there’s something that you only need for that day.
Kaito: That’s amazing.
Hokuto: I think that’s really interesting. It’s well thought out.
Kaito: Also, the trends of the year are obvious at a glance. You can tell, right?
Hokuto: Like the outfits of comedians and stuff.
Kaito: That’s right.
Hokuto: Yeah, that’s true.
Q7. Finally, please say a few words to Marugame Seimen customers.
Kaito: The “Marugame Udonuts Marron/Chestnut Flavor” actually has two types of chestnuts kneaded into it, and you can enjoy the gentle sweetness of the chestnuts. It was really delicious. We also recommend combining the “Marugame Udonuts” with various toppings, which allows you to customize it in a way that’s perfect for the autumn appetite. We hope you’ll try the “Marugame Udonuts Marron/Chestnut Flavor” and find your favorite “Marugame Udonuts“, Thank you!!
Hokuto: The wildly popular “Marugame Udonut” has released a new autumn flavor: “Marron Flavor.” The chewy “Marugame Udonut” is kneaded with candied chestnuts and unpeeled chestnut paste, and when you add chestnut flavor powder and shake it, you can enjoy the whole chestnut flavor, from the aroma to the taste to the texture. I think everyone can enjoy autumn a little early! Whether you’re spending time at home or out and about in the fall, enjoy the gentle and sweet chestnut flavor of “Marugame Udonut Marron/Chestnut Flavor” with your family and friends! Please enjoy it.
