Kaito Takahashi and Ren Nagase, appear together in their first promotional commercial as a duo for Google generative AI “Gemini”, that was released the 1st December. Having become members of “Team Gemini” – partners tasked with sharing Gemini‘s appeal and fun ways to use it – the duo, who regularly utilise generative AI, will challenge themselves with various applications of Gemini.
This time, the two artists —beloved by a wide audience— have revealed their use of generative AI in media outlets. By showcasing them using Gemini, we aim to inspire those unfamiliar with our AI to try it, proposing a better relationship between AI and humans. Moving forward, alongside King & Prince —who will produce unprecedented creative content themselves— we will share diverse applications and their unique, playful approaches via social media and other channels.
The new commercial depicts Ren and Kaito enjoying themselves naturally while using Gemini. They demonstrate diverse ways to enjoy it immediately, such as using the image generation feature “Nano Banana” to turn themselves into figures, plush toys, or emojis, and trying fortune-telling via the chat function. The music for the film was produced by the DTM unit “PC Music Club”, who create electronic music based on analogue synthesiser and sound module sounds.
They filmed the process while experimenting with various applications of Gemini, including transforming photographed figures and dolls into digital art, generating pixel art emoji stamps, creating an ‘Animal Gemini Fortune Teller’ that predicts your fortune based on five questions, and generating the character ‘Fluffy (provisional name)’ – a character anyone can create using Gemini.
‘Fluffy’ character generation saw the pair challenge themselves to create original characters by inputting their desired character concepts into Gemini. Ren tried creating a character who loves white rice, resulting in a delighted reaction when a character with rice ball ears holding chopsticks was generated, but Kaito specified colours, expressions, and body shapes in detail, generating a character brimming with creativity. Both seemed thoroughly hooked, generating numerous characters even during filming breaks.
Their ‘Fluffy’ mascots, created by the two members have already been posted via the group’s official SNS. They’ve also tried Halloween costumes using these characters, showcasing original ways to use them. Fans responded with numerous comments, and similarly, many ‘Fluffy’ characters have been generated across social media. Posts showcased uniquely playful interpretations, including ‘Fluffy’ versions matching the members’ colours and depictions of the ‘Fluffy’ characters cheering them on!

Ren & Kaito: We’re delighted, aren’t we?
Ren: Some people might feel a bit distant from AI, but as members of Team Gemini, we want to convey just how wonderful it is.
Kaito: Personally, I’ve been using AI daily and found it enjoyable, so I’m thrilled to be part of this project. I hope it helps many more people feel closer to Gemini.
I understand you both use generative AI regularly. How do you typically employ it?
Kaito: I use it to craft stories from my imagination or to help generate ideas for creative projects.
Ren: For instance, when I’m stuck wondering how else to phrase something, I find it incredibly useful to ask Gemini using longer sentences. It understands and provides answers, which is brilliant.
Were there any surprising or particularly enjoyable ways you used Gemini?
Kaito: Creating fluffy characters with Gemini went absolutely viral for me! I kept making them during breaks in filming and ended up creating about fifteen of them.
Ren: I tried making a slim, rice-shaped character with a quiff hairstyle, but the quiff made it lose its rice-like appeal. So I instructed it to emphasise the rice-like qualities more, and it generated about fifteen variations all at once – that was quite amusing.
Kaito: My favourites besides the “Dinosaur” are the fluffy ones generated using keywords like “Turquoise Blue”, “Floating”, and “Cute”. I also found Gemini Live incredibly handy. When cooking, I could ask it on the spot about seasoning, and it would advise me. It even taught me cleaning methods, so I felt it was becoming like a daily partner.
Ren: Yes, Gemini Live is incredibly handy for answering trivial questions like ‘How do I use this?’ or ‘How should I wash this?’
Kaito: I found myself wanting to ask Gemini loads of life hacks!
Is there anything you’d like to try with Gemini over Christmas or the New Year period?
Ren: I don’t eat traditional New Year dishes like osechi or ozoni soup myself, but next year I’d like Gemini to come up with a slightly different, tasty version of ozoni soup – perhaps with ingredients I like – and try eating that.
Kaito: I’m planning to start the year-end cleaning and redecorating soon. As shown in the video, Gemini can generate ideas for redecorating, so I think I’ll try using it to help with that.
For those who haven’t used Gemini yet, how would you like them to use it?
Ren: For everyday cooking, cleaning, and a wide range of other things. If you ask Gemini about things you don’t understand or have questions about, it will give you answers. So I’d like people to use Gemini as a “daily handyman” in various situations.
Kaito: I hear fewer people in Japan use AI compared to other countries, but having used it myself, I find it enjoyable, approachable, and a great resource for small queries. I hope people will use it as a familiar presence, both in daily life and at important moments.
Ren: Plus, you can play around with your own photos, so please give it a try.
