Jesse of the six-member group SixTONES has been confirmed to appear as a voice actor in the new theatrical anime film Sergeant Keroro, the franchise’s first movie in 16 years, titled New Sergeant Keroro the Movie: The Earth Faces Immediate Doom After Its Revival! (set to be released on June 26). A new full trailer has also been unveiled, along with the main visual and the theme song.
Jesse will voice the original characters “Aruru” and “Deruru.” Known for his unique personality and versatility shown on variety programs, he has been cast as the Keronian brothers and will take on the challenge of playing two roles for the first time.
Sergeant Keroro is based on the manga by Mine Yoshizaki, currently serialized in Monthly Shonen Ace. The story is a comedy about frog-like aliens who come to Earth and cause all kinds of chaos. The TV anime aired for seven years starting in 2004, with a wide media expansion including five theatrical films. In 2024, the series celebrated both the 25th anniversary of the original manga and the 20th anniversary of the anime, solidifying its status as a popular franchise. This new film is being produced as part of the anime’s 20th anniversary project under director Yuichi Fukuda.
Additionally, it has been announced that ano will perform the theme song, following the opening track “Mata Kaettekita Kerotto! March.” The newly written song for the film, “Kashippanashi Destiny,” is a fast-paced rock tune that highlights ano’s powerful vocals, making it a fitting piece for what is described as the largest battle in the series’ history. Ano is also serving as the promotional ambassador for the anime’s 20th anniversary project.
The newly released full trailer begins with Keroro happily preparing for a family trip to a southern island, only to be shocked when he learns he has to stay behind. Soon after, Fuyuki informs him that mysterious yokai-like creatures have appeared in Shibuya, causing panic. Keroro and his team head to Shibuya, but the situation raises questions: is this the work of a new invader? And who exactly is the mysterious inventor, “Dr. Ardel”? The Keroro Platoon must face this new threat, putting their pride as invaders on the line.
The trailer also reveals the Keronian brothers “Aruru” and “Deruru,” who stand in Keroro’s way. Are they enemies or allies? Can the Keroro Platoon protect Earth from the strongest enemy in the series’ history? With glimpses of large-scale action scenes spanning from across Japan to outer space, the film promises to be the biggest in the franchise yet.
The main visual has also been unveiled, depicting Keroro and his allies standing against the strongest enemy with Earth on the brink of destruction behind them. In the background appear Dr. Ardel and the Keronian brothers Aruru and Deruru, creating a powerful image that hints at an intense and dramatic battle to come.
COMMENT BY JESSE
I had a great time playing the two roles of Aruru and Deruru! At first, I was really nervous and felt overwhelmed, but as I kept performing, I gradually got the hang of it and was even able to add some ad-libs. Director Fukuda laughed too, which made me really happy!
Both Aruru and Deruru have turned into amazing characters, so I hope everyone enjoys the film without realizing ‘Wait, that was Jesse?’ from beginning to end!
This time, the story involves facing the biggest threat in the series, which made it really exciting and nerve-wracking. I’m truly happy to be part of this Sergeant Keroro project alongside such a wonderful cast and with Director Fukuda’s unique touch.
Please enjoy all the different developments and characters! Aruru and Deruru are my favorites! Everyone, I’ll be waiting for you at the theater!
