STARTO artist Tatsuya Ueda will star in the musical “The Three Musketeers: Reborn” (三銃士:Reborn), which will be performed in January 2027 at the Sky Theater MBS in Osaka and in February at the Shinbashi Enbujo in Tokyo. This marks Tatsuya‘s first leading role in a musical play, which promises to breathe new life into the classic it’s based on.
Overview
“The Three Musketeers,” the timeless story by 19th-century French author Alexandre Dumas, has been adapted into many musicals around the world—including in Broadway, France, and the Netherlands—thanks to its thrilling story. This version was originally produced in the Czech Republic in 2004, and underwent a major revision of its script and score in South Korea in 2009. Since then, it has become a popular play with numerous revivals.
The new production, however, will be completely reimagined with a boldly revised cast and direction. ‘Reborn’ from the ground up, it will incorporate rap as a central element, reflecting a style that has recently gained attention in Western musical theater.

The lead role will be played by Tatsuya Ueda—formerly a member of KAT-TUN, which ended activities in 2025. Alongside his music career, Tatsuya has built an extensive acting résumé across film and stage. He has earned acclaim for his physical performances in “Political Mother: The Choreographer’s Cut” (2019) and “Endless SHOCK” (2020, 2021, and 2024). In 2026, he has remained highly active as an actor, appearing in the drama “Saint Love Survivors” and the film “TOKYO BURST: Hanzai Toshi,” starring in the stage production “Ripley,” and being set to co-star in “Knockin’ on Locked Door THE STAGE” in October. In “The Three Musketeers: Reborn,” he takes on the role of Athos, the skilled swordsman and de facto leader of the title trio, portraying a mature man haunted by a past romance.
Set in 17th-century France, the story follows D’Artagnan, a young man who travels to Paris with dreams of becoming a musketeer. There, he meets the legendary Three Musketeers—Athos, Aramis, and Porthos—and together they join forces to defeat a common enemy. As their friendship deepens, the schemes of Cardinal Richelieu lead to the king’s disappearance and the kidnapping of D’Artagnan‘s beloved, Constance. Against a backdrop of flashing swords and intertwined fates, the musical depicts unwavering friendship, love, and conviction.
The new production will be directed and adapted by Komei Sugano, who plans to incorporate plenty of rap and dance elements to create a highly entertaining stage production. Keisuke Shimizu will serve as music director, while rapper KIN DA SHER ROCK—who has remained a prominent figure in Japan’s hip-hop scene through mixtapes, live performances, and collaborations with numerous musicians since 2001—joins the creative team as rap creator, adding a fresh new dimension to the show.

Tatsuya Ueda’s Comment
“I’m Tatsuya Ueda, and I’ll be playing Athos.
This will be my first time starring in a musical, so I’m already incredibly excited.
With rap, singing, sword fighting, and dance, the staff and I are determined to create an entertainment experience that anyone can enjoy and get excited about.
SHOCK, starring Koichi-kun, is the greatest entertainment production I’ve ever experienced on stage. With the mindset of catching up to—and even surpassing—it, I’ll give this role everything I’ve got.”
