WEST.’s “Ura Shain. – Spy Yarasete Morotemasu -“

The title of the upcoming movie starring WEST. has been officially decided as “Ura Shain. – Spy Yarasete Morotemasu -“!

This completely original action-comedy follows “Ura Shain“โ€”employees who go beyond their usual duties to secretly handle problems that canโ€™t be solved through ordinary means. Tasked by their company president with demolishing a shuttered shopping district to make way for a new commercial complex, they infiltrate the areaโ€”only to discover that rival company spies have already been sent on the same mission.

Both sides have their sights set on the townโ€™s biggest landowner. However, the more they act, the more they unexpectedly win the hearts of the shopping districtโ€™s residents. Meanwhile, a passionate man striving to revive the struggling district and a mysterious figure with unknown motives also emerge, sending the situation into unexpected chaos.

With high-energy spy action, slapstick humor, romance, and plenty of unexpected twists, this exhilarating film delivers a thrilling mix of laughter, deception, and heartwarming moments. Get ready for a fast-paced, feel-good action-comedy packed with quirky characters and unexpected showdowns!

This film marks an exciting reunion for WEST., who previously starred together in Blazing Transfer Student (streaming on Netflix!). Seeing all seven members once again take on dynamic roles in a high-energy production is a thrilling treat for fans. Their unique chemistry and comedic timing, honed over years of working together, shine through in this must-see film.

Among the many standout moments from the trailer, a particular lineโ€”something about shaking hands with a gorillaโ€”has already become legendary. The unexpected absurdity of it has left fans intrigued, reinforcing the filmโ€™s promise of unpredictable humor and wild storytelling. This offbeat comedic touch is precisely what makes WEST.โ€™s projects so beloved, and itโ€™s clear that “Ura Shain” will be no exception.

Beyond the comedy, the film also brings intense action sequences, offering fans a fresh side of the group. Junta’s character has especially caught attention. Known for embracing his self-proclaimed โ€œweakestโ€ status in real life, seeing him take on the role of a powerful and fearless character is an exciting twist. His action scenes, along with a particular slap sequence that has already made an impression, hint at a film that balances both high-energy combat and laugh-out-loud moments with ease.

Another unexpected delight for fans is the realization that this film may be connected to WEST.โ€™s past Shochiku Theater performances. The possibility of “Ura Shain” expanding on that world has sparked excitement, with many thrilled at how previous themes and elements are being woven into a brand-new cinematic adventure. Itโ€™s a nod to their past while pushing forward into something bigger, a perfect combination for long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Everything about this movie embodies WEST.โ€™s signature appeal. The humor, the chaotic yet perfectly synchronized group dynamic, and the ability to mix action with heartwarming camaraderieโ€”itโ€™s a film that fully embraces what makes WEST. special. Thereโ€™s a sense that this isnโ€™t just an action-comedy but a full-fledged celebration of their energy and charm. Fans already know it will be fun, but the excitement lies in discovering just how far theyโ€™ll take it.

Adding to the excitement is the filmโ€™s theme song, โ€œWESSAI SOUL!โ€. With lyrics and composition by Tortoise Matsumoto and sound production by Ulfuls, the track is expected to perfectly complement the filmโ€™s high-energy and playful tone. This exciting collaboration brings a fresh and energetic sound to the film! Many are already eager to hear it in full, anticipating how it will enhance the movieโ€™s atmosphere and leave a lasting impact.

As the countdown to May 2, 2025, begins, the anticipation only continues to grow. Fans are already restless, knowing this will be a film that delivers on every front. Between the action, comedy, music, and the undeniable presence of WEST., Ura Shain. – Spy Yarasete Morotemasu – is shaping up to be an unforgettable theatrical experience. The only question left is: how long until opening day?

Cast & Director Comments

Daiki Shigeoka (Yoichiro)

“The character I play, Yoichiro, is like the protagonist of a shonen mangaโ€”energetic and straightforward. It almost feels like an exaggerated version of myself! I also took on action scenes this time, and even though I regularly train, they were incredibly challenging. Coordinating with my co-stars and the camera crew required precision and speed, so when we finally nailed a scene, I couldnโ€™t help but yell, โ€˜Yeah!โ€™ (laughs). This is definitely one of the movie’s highlights, so be sure to watch closely!”

Akito Kiriyama (Utage)

“I portray Utage, a cool and seemingly lone-wolf character who doesnโ€™t let others influence him. Due to his past, he stopped trusting people, but through a particular mission, heโ€™s forced to work as part of a team and slowly rediscovers the joy of camaraderie. The film features many comedic, quick-witted exchanges, making it enjoyable from multiple perspectives. Even those unfamiliar with WEST. will find something to laugh about and enjoy.”

Junta Nakama (Jin)

“Jin is a fiercely loyal and righteous guy. The director told me, โ€˜I want you to always be so straightforward that people canโ€™t tell if youโ€™re joking or serious,โ€™ and thatโ€™s how I approached the role. In some ways, heโ€™s a lot like meโ€”except for the fact that heโ€™s a bit rough around the edges (laughs). My character is ridiculously strong despite me probably being the weakest among the cast. Itโ€™s a comedy with some over-the-top elements, but as the story unfolds, youโ€™ll see that every character has a past and something theyโ€™re carrying with them. By the end, you might just feel the urge to reconnect with someone important to you.”

Tomohiro Kamiyama (Takarada)

“Takarada believes that lying to yourself is the worst thing you can do. He speaks his mind without hesitation, which makes him quite different from me. Unlike the other characters, he doesnโ€™t change throughout the filmโ€”instead, he changes the people around him. Since he delivers lines that make others stop and think, I focused on making his dialogue sound natural yet impactful. This is the first time all seven WEST. members are starring in a film together. Seeing each of us fully immersed in unique characters, I hope the audience finds it just as exciting as we did.“

Ryusei Fujii (Chara)

“I play Chara, who is always with Jin. After Jin once saved him, heโ€™s been devoted to him ever since. Heโ€™s a lovable goofballโ€”cheerful, funny, and a bit of an airhead. Since weโ€™re all part of WEST., the ad-libbing felt so natural that even I had trouble distinguishing what was scripted and what wasnโ€™t! At the same time, it was fascinating to see my longtime friends transform into completely different people on screen. This is a WEST. film through and through, and I hope people enjoy it casually and have fun.”

Takahiro Hamada (Shojiki)

“Shojiki is a quiet, observant character who rarely talks about himself. Heโ€™s a bit shy but also somewhat crazy and mysterious. The director wanted to incorporate my โ€˜crazy but funnyโ€™ personality into the role, which was challenging, but seeing the cast and crew laugh at my performance gave me confidence. This film has comedy, action, romanceโ€”itโ€™s got everything! Iโ€™m really excited to see how audiences react to it in theaters.“

Nozomu Kotaki (Makoto)

“Makoto has a complicated history with Yoichiro and is hard to read at first. However, as the story progresses, you see glimpses of his fun-loving and kind nature. I hope viewers enjoy watching how he changes throughout the film. The fact that we can share this fun movie with a wide audience is truly exciting. Itโ€™s rare to see all seven of us on one big screen together, so I canโ€™t wait to see the final product!“

Director Toichiro Ruto

“I first met WEST. back in 2009 when they were just middle and high schoolers. Now, 15 years later… they havenโ€™t changed a bit. Theyโ€™re forever middle schoolers. The stuff they talk about between takes? Itโ€™s not even like a high school clubroomโ€”itโ€™s more like a middle school one. They can laugh at the silliest jokes for five hours straight. And honestly, itโ€™s amazing. That rare, easygoing camaraderie is something I poured into this film. In a world that often feels tense and unsettling, this movie is about the importance of laughter and bonds. A completely offbeat spy film thatโ€™s full of warmth and humorโ€”please look forward to it!”
