Recently, a widely known concern among the community has been the increase in fake accounts and accounts pretending to be official.
Though much of the content shared is simply reposted from legitimate sources and is not inherently false, there is growing concern that fake accounts will soon become indistinguishable from real ones.
In this widespread landscape of digital shields, it’s become a norm to always double-check your sources before believing anything at first glance. This is also true to ensure which accounts are official and which are not. It’s easy for anyone to start an account about anything, and even though the technology is as advanced as it is, it still comes down to the human touch to verify the accounts. With the number of fake accounts floating around, it’s nearly impossible to take care of them all.
How can you ensure that the account you’re following is an official one?
On the official site, https://starto.jp, the officially associated SNS accounts are located at the bottom of the page. The site also has a dedicated section about fraudulent and malicious sites and accounts, warning fans to beware of the various scams floating around.
If you’re ever unsure which account is official, visit the official site and follow the links there. The best approach to avoid having them on your own timeline is to mute, block, and possibly report the fake accounts and ensure that you’re keeping up with the official ones. If it’s not linked on any of the official websites (Japanese or English), it is not an official account.
