It was announced on November 26th that the latest TV Marugame Udonatsu commercial, “All Chocolate! Kaito and Hokuto‘s Udonut Weather,” winter edition, will be broadcast nationwide from December 2nd. The two of them became new ambassadors on April 10th of this year and since then the product has sold a total of 20 million servings between June 25, 2024 and September 15, 2025.
In the commercial, you can enjoy watching the two stuff their cheeks with the new flavors “Rich Double Chocolate Reward Chocolate Flavor” and “Rich Double Chocolate Happy Milk Flavor.” It starts with a scene where they take a bite of the “Rich Double Chocolate” Marugame Udonut, which is made with raw chocolate and chocolate sauce on the outside, and are entranced by the rich chocolate flavor that hits them. One of the highlights is seeing the two put their hands to their cheeks, close their eyes, and exclaim, “It’s so chewy, I can’t stop eating it!” as they look on in bliss as the rich chocolate flavor fills their mouths along with the chewy texture. They also have a charming exchange, repeatedly chanting “Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, chocolate!” in cheerful voices.
After filming, the two were interviewed. Below are the main points of their conversation:
This was your fourth time working together, and following on from your previous autumn shoot, the setting was enjoying Marugame Udonuts at home. How was that?
Kaito: Since this was our fourth time, we were able to work in perfect sync. We really wouldn’t be able to meet in our normal lives. We don’t often get to meet even for work, so while filming, I felt grateful for this precious opportunity. It’s so much fun to be with Hokuto, so I had a great time filming this time as well. Also, when I heard that two different flavors would be released simultaneously as Rich Double Chocolate, I was looking forward to seeing what they were like, and they were really delicious. We even talked about which one I liked better.
Hokuto: We got really excited, more than I expected!
Kaito: I think the atmosphere between takes was more relaxed and fun than ever before. How was it? What about you?
Hokuto: That’s right. Just like in the autumn shoot, the setting was at home, and even in between filming, we kept eating the two varieties of this time’s Rich Double Chocolate “Marugame Udonuts.“ I think the TV commercial really captures the relaxed, natural atmosphere of the two of us at home.
This time, you tried the new “Marugame Udonut Rich Double Chocolate Reward Chocolate Flavor.” What were your impressions after tasting it?
Takahashi: I’m always amazed at how “Marugame Udonut” breaks records. The “Acai Berry Flavor” was delicious, the “Maron Flavor,” and the “Strawberry Milk Flavor” were all delicious, but this time it was the “Chocolate Flavor.” This is Marugame Seimen‘s specialty, the “Happy and Chewy Method,” which incorporates ingredients into the dough. It’s like raw chocolate is kneaded into the dough. And then there’s chocolate sauce on top, making this “Marugame Udonut” truly all about chocolate. Chocolate lovers will feel like they’re in heaven when they eat this. It’s also perfect for the cold season.
Hokuto: It’s covered in chocolate powder!
Kaito: It’s the best, isn’t it?
Hokuto: It’s delicious!
Kaito: So I think that even in this cold winter, Marugame Udonut will make you feel warm and sweet.
Hokuto: Oh no… I was going to say that!
Kaito: I said it, I just said it! (laughs)
Hokuto: This is quite similar to what Kaito said, but the new thing this time is that raw chocolate has been kneaded into it, and that was what made it so delicious. Combined with the chewy dough of Marugame Udonut, the rich chocolate flavor comes flooding in, layer after layer, with each bite, and you can really call it “all about chocolate.” And the special chocolate-flavored powder isn’t just sweet, it has a deep flavor and a richness to it. I thought it was the perfect treat for a winter’s sweet treat.
Today, you also tried the “Marugame Udonut Rich Double Chocolate Reward Chocolate Flavor” and the “Rich Double Chocolate Happy Milk Flavor,” which will be released on the same day. What were your impressions after tasting it?
Hokuto: For the first time in the history of “Marugame Udonut,” it’s covered in white chocolate, and you can enjoy its gentle milky sweetness. The richness is quite different and delicious, and this one is also sprinkled with a special milk-flavored powder, which, to put it in a stylish way, looks like powdered snow. I thought it was nice that it actually looked like it was piled up, which gave it a wintery feel. What did Kaito think?
Kaito: As Hokuti said, the “Marugame Udonut Rich Double Chocolate Happy Milk Flavor” had a double chocolate flavor with the raw chocolate kneaded into it and the white chocolate sauce on top melted softly in your mouth, and it was a very milky and deliciously delicious treat. Both varieties are delicious and it’s hard to choose, so I thought it would be fun to buy both and share them with a friend, for example.
This TV commercial was shot on a set that gives off a winter vibe. Can you tell us what you’re both looking forward to this winter?
Hokuto: What are we looking forward to in winter…
Kaito: For me, um, snowboarding? Is it called snowboarding? In Japan. It’s the same everywhere. Yeah, I want to snowboard!
Hokuto: If there’s a familiar term, that’s fine.
Kaito: Snow slides, snowboarding…
Hokuto: You’re a time traveler! (laughs)
Kaito: I want to snowboard, so I’d like to go to Tohoku and play in the snowy mountains. I think I’ll take some Marugame Udonuts with me when I go.
Hokuto: That’s right. My best friend and I have been talking a lot over the past few years about trying things that we know and see a lot about, but have never actually done. I want to make a snow hut. I’d like to make a snow hut in the winter and spend some time there.
Kaito: Make a snow hut and spend some time there?
Hokuto: I have no idea how long you can spend time on it, since I’ve never tried it before! It’d be fun if you could play games on it.
Kaito: That’s amazing. You can try even instal the electrical system!
Hokuto: I’ve never instal one so I don’t know!
Kaito: It’s too confusing (laughs) I don’t know so much that I’m saying crazy things. It might be difficult for electricity to pass through, but it’d be nice if it could be done!
Hokuto: Yeah, I don’t know. I’ve never done it so I don’t know!
Please tell us about any winter-specific habits or things you pay attention to.
Kaito: The thing you really need to be careful about in winter is the cold. It’s so cold, so I sleep with the covers tightly covering me.
Hokuto: When you’re asleep, you see. It drops sharply again at dawn.
Kaito: That’s right. But if it gets too hot, when you wake up, you just throw off the quilt with a whoosh! You know, whoosh!
Hokuto: I know exactly what you mean. When your body temperature rises slightly while you’re sleeping, you kick it off, and at dawn, you’re freezing.
Kaito: Exactly, that’s the one thing I really want to avoid. And, friends, it’s the season when colds are rampant, so I hope you all take good care of yourselves. I want everyone to stay healthy!
Hokuto: And the dryness too…
Kaito: Dryness is brutal, isn’t it?
Hokuto: After bathing, you raise the water temperature a little, don’t you? Then the natural oils are removed too easily. It’s drier than in summer, isn’t it? Rooms are dry too, obviously.
Kaito: In summer there’s still some humidity, so you can put up with it.
Hokuto: So, the important thing is to moisturise, isn’t it? Really.
Kaito: Moisturise, yes, you have to be very careful about that. The dryness of winter is really scary. I’m already starting to dread the arrival of winter.
Hokuto: It’s very noticeable, isn’t it? It depends on the season.
Kaito: I’m quite sensitive to the seasons, you see. Temperature fluctuations, or periods with low humidity. So even in winter, I try to avoid using the air conditioning as much as possible.
Hokuto: What about that? Do you use inhalers or anything?
Kaito: I don’t really use inhalers, but if I’m staying in a hotel on tour, for example, I absolutely fill the bath. And I just try to get as much humidity out as possible, especially in winter. Anything you’re careful about?
Hokuto: Well, since last year I’ve got a new humidifier, a pretty powerful one. So the humidifying is fine, but then it’s the battle against mould.
Kaito: Yeah, that’s true.
Hokuto: So, ironically, I’ve ended up calling cleaning services more often. There’s just a level where it gets beyond what you can handle yourself.
Kaito: It’s tricky, isn’t it? Finding that balance. Humidity.
Hokuto: I’m using one of those big, pipe-like ones.
Kaito: You bought one of those massive ones?
Hokuto: I’m running it full blast.
From April 2025, you both served as Marugame Udonatsu Ambassadors. Looking back on this year, what are your thoughts?
Kaito: Looking back over this past year. But really, being able to try all sorts of “Marugame Udonuts” across the seasons made me think Marugame Seimen is truly amazing.
Hokuto: Even with the “Açaí Berry flavour”, they kneaded it into the dough, but this time too, with kneading and sauces added – being right in the middle of this ongoing evolution must seem rather unfair to others. Honestly, it was just so much fun, wasn’t it?
Kaito: It was right at the time when Marugame Seimen‘s “Marugame Udonuts” were evolving, wasn’t it?
Hokuto: Exactly. And speaking of which, the fact that two people from different groups could meet up so many times throughout the year – that wouldn’t happen for work if it weren’t for Marugame Seimen!
Kaito: That’s True!
Hokuto: Arranging to meet privately is fun too, but there’s also the joy of meeting at work.
Kaito: Of course! So whenever filming for Marugame Seimen‘s “Marugame Udonuts” TV commercial pops up on the schedule, I get absolutely thrilled.
Hokuto: It is so much fun every time!
Kaito: We even filmed at an actual Marugame Seimen shop once, didn’t we? Was that the first time? And also for the “Açaí Berry flavour”.
Hokuto: Was that twice?
Kaito: Being able to shoot while taking in the aroma of Marugame Seimen‘s udon noodles felt really special. Plus, I used to go there almost every day back when I was actually in high school and my student days, so reminiscing about that time while filming made me think, “This is rather nice”. It even made me feel a bit emotional at times. It’s been a fulfilling year, hasn’t it, this year?
Hokuto: That was incredibly fun!
