The cast of the highly-anticipated Prime Original film “Angel Flight: The Movie,” starring Ryoko Yonekura, has been unveiled, along with the release of a teaser trailer. Streaming worldwide exclusively on Prime Video starting February 13, 2026, this production is a continuation of the drama “Angel Flight: Kokusai Reikyu Sokanshi” (エンジェルフライト 国際霊柩送還士), which premiered in 2023 to widespread acclaim. Even three years after its release, it remains a hugely popular work, earning an average rating of 4.7 stars among Amazon Original Japanese titles (as of January 13, 2026, based on 1,094 reviews).
Based on the book of the same name by Ryoko Sasa, winner of the 10th Kaiko Takeshi Nonfiction Award (Shueisha Bunko), Angel Flight is a human drama that shines a light on the little-known profession of international repatriation specialists—those who transport the deceased across borders to their families. Blending tears and laughter, the series delivers a powerful story that weaves together sorrowful misunderstandings and many forms of love between the deceased and those left behind.
The protagonist is Nami Izawa (Yonekura), the president of a small company called Angel Hearse, which operates out of Haneda Airport. Sharp-tongued but deeply compassionate, Nami leads a group of uniquely eccentric employees as they face grieving families and work to return the deceased to their home countries.
The Angel Hearse team includes: Honoka Matsumoto—who co-leads the upcoming ABC TV & TV Asahi drama “50-fun kan no Koibito” with Hey! Say! JUMP‘s Kei Inoo—as Rinko Takagi, a stubborn rookie who joined the company dreaming of working internationally; Yu Shirota as Shusuke Hiragi, a highly-trusted corpse-handling specialist; Kayo Noro as Minori Matsuyama, a gossip-loving, cynical yet kind-hearted office administrator; Yuma Yamoto as Yuya Yano, a former delinquent and the team’s mood-maker; Yu Tokui as Mitsugu Tanoshita, a gentle, calming driver; and Kenichi Endo as Shiro Kashiwagi, the yakuza-like chairman and Nami‘s boss. Though they clash at times, the members of Angel Hearse are tightly bonded.
Set immediately after the events of the drama, the film also reunites a stellar supporting cast, including Osamu Mukai as Yukihito Adachi, Nami‘s lover who is believed to have died in an overseas accident eight years ago; Ayumi Tanida as Detective Kurosaki, who investigates the incident involving Yukito, Erena Kamata as Umi Izawa, Nami‘s daughter; and Nao Oriyama as Wataru Izawa, Nami‘s son.
Following a standout performance in the 2025 drama “Revenge Spy” led by Naniwa Danshi‘s Kazuya Ohashi, Oriyama returns to movie productions by reprising the role of Nami‘s warm yet bluntly honest son Wataru. He was last seen on the medium in the 2024 theatrical release “Uchi no Ototo Domo ga Sumimasen,” where he shared the screen with fellow Juniors Yuto Nasu, Ryuto Sakuma, and Kirato Uchida.
In the newly released teaser, Nami and the Angel Hearse team once again face new trials. While dedicating herself daily to international mortuary transportation, Nami receives information suggesting that Yukito might still be alive in Mexico. Although Nami says, “I don’t want to know now,” she is ordered by Kashiwagi to travel to Mexico to repatriate a deceased Japanese national. Amid Mexico’s “Day of the Dead” festival, as she struggles to carry out her duties, Nami is forced to confront her own past and history with Yukito.
Meanwhile, the Angel Hearse team tackles demanding cases spanning Australia, Italy, the United States, and Japan. Crossing borders and overcoming countless challenges, the story of how these professionals work to return the deceased to the families waiting for them back home promises to once again move audiences deeply.
Matsumoto commented that she had been curious about Nami‘s past and the aspects that couldn’t be fully explored in the drama, expressing her joy at participating in the sequel. Shirota described the film as “a work that makes you reflect anew on life and death.” Mukai revealed that the movie finally portrays Yukito‘s feelings and journey.
“Angel Flight: The Movie” will be available as part of Amazon Prime benefits, allowing Prime members to watch at no additional cost. Please look forward to it.
