Takahisa Masuda, member of the popular group NEWS and renowned fashion enthusiast, is once again the centre of attention in the Japanese publishing industry, his passion for fashion has led him to design costumes for NEWS‘ tours for over 10 years. The upcoming March issue of Soen magazine (on sale 28 January) will devote an extensive 10-page feature to Massu‘s creative work as a designer and stylist for his own group.
Under the concept of “Metamorphosis,” the central theme of the NEWS LIVE TOUR 2025 – Henshin (変身), Massu has designed a visual proposal that seeks to convey a message of authenticity: that even through the most profound changes, one’s personal essence remains intact. The article highlights how the artist has managed to intertwine the staging with costumes that reflect small but significant processes of transformation.
Among the most eagerly awaited pieces analysed in this edition are Massu‘s personal garments, which were redesigned for the stage, and the stunning Oiran (high-ranking courtesan) costume, created exclusively to be worn during a single song on the tour.
In addition to exclusive photographs, Massu offers a detailed explanation of each of the six main outfits from the tour in his special column “MFBB” (Masuda Fashion Blue Boy). As an added bonus for collectors and fashion fans, the magazine will feature unique outfits created specifically for this photo shoot, combining pieces from the tour with cutting-edge editorial elements.
This edition of Soen, promises to be the definitive guide to understanding the visual evolution of NEWS and the consolidation of Massu as one of the most influential figures at the intersection of J-Pop and haute couture.
