On April 15th 2026, a windy spring evening, fans of Travis Japan gathered in a particularly bustling part of Tokyo. In Shinjuku’s Kabukicho, the release event for the group’s second CD single, “KAGE NI MO HINATA NI MO”, was about to take place, and fans who won a lottery through the CD preorder were invited to participate. Not only that, the event was livestreamed to all who preordered said single, so it’s safe to say not only Tokyo was ready for an extraordinary performance.

Fans cheered as Travis Japan—Kaito “Chaka” Miyachika, Kaito “Umi” Nakamura, Ryuya “Shime” Shimekake, Noel Kawashima, Shizuya “Shizu” Yoshizawa, Genta Matsuda, and Kaito “Machu” Matsukura—entered the stage, dressed in white, sparkly costumes with black shirts on the inside, a perfect fit for the theme of the title track.
As seen in the music video, the song portrays a world where things are black and white, where when it comes to love, you’re all in, or you’ll lose out. It’s a sophisticated yet catchy song, with cool rap lines and high notes, and a chorus that really sticks with you. This was the first song of the event, and Travis Japan lived right up to the expectations of everybody watching.
Their sharp dancing only added to the experience, top class as always, and I wouldn’t be surprised if bypassers on the street stopped in their tracks to check out the performance. Because yes, not only fans who won the lottery were able to catch a glance under the tall buildings of Shinjuku, it was also broadcast on a large screen facing the square the stage had been built on. All in all, a rare opportunity for Travis Japan to spread their charismatic performances in real time to people that might not even have known their name until that very moment.
And what a moment! “KAGE NI MO HINATA NI MO” showed off only the best sides of the group in terms of their skills, which only made for an even more fun second song. “As We Are” is a catchy song, and on stage, we could see the members interacting as they sang, all smiles, with little laughs here and there. In the chorus, they all turned to the audience, waving their hands in rhythm to the song, and the fans quickly took that as their cue to follow along. A homely feel spread over the event space, making for an easy transition to the next number.
“O-Shan-Tee” has become somewhat of a fan favorite, with its nostalgic disco beat and the dance moves inspired by the Para-Para dance style that was popular in 80’s Japan. It consists largely of arm and hand movement, which, of course, allows the fans to join in as well. Penlights waved as fans copied the members’ dancing, a performance created altogether.
The song ended, and the group moved into the MC, starting off with greetings. They spoke of how well the single had been selling, of how happy they were to release a CD single as 7 members, as Noel had been on hiatus for the previous one. Shizu mentioned he hopes to release more CD singles and keep selling just as well, and then a couple of the remaining members made quite remarkable greetings.
Machu, for example, opened with his regular greeting: “I’m Machu, like Machu Pichu!” before he went on to state that “This is the hottest Shinjuku in Japan!”, before quickly correcting himself after seeing his group members’ reactions. “The hottest place in Japan!” he claimed, and I think all the people watching were willing to agree.
Umi chose to claim that he’s the best fit for Kabukicho, leading to some questioning looks from the members, but plenty of laughter too. He might look like a party boy, but we all know he’s a sweetheart too.
Chaka, on the other hand, with pride in his eyes, talked about how happy he was to get to sing outside under the sky as the sun sets, because it is a rare opportunity, and it does make for a whole different atmosphere than in an indoor arena.

Now, a CD release is more than enough reason to party, but for this day, Travis Japan had more to celebrate. A large cake was rolled out on stage, decorated in black and white, similar to KAGE NI MO HINATA NI MO music video and visuals, and the plate on it stated clearly: “Happy Birthday Umi & Genta”.
Both Umi and Genta had their birthdays close to the event date, and of course, what better than to get to celebrate together with the fans? After getting some photos taken, they dug in, Umi and Genta feeding each other black and white macarons from the top of the cake, while Machu took a bite out of the chocolate square decorated just like the CD cover. Having seen that, Chaka attempted to fool Shime into taking a bite out of the tablet he was reading livestream comments from, but to no success. Shime took the chance to read out one particular comment that I think all people watching agreed on.
“Travis Japan looks so good with the wind in their hair!”
At this point, the wind had picked up quite a bit, but if anything, it only added to the members’ idol appearance. Similar to stage fans, it seemed to blow in just the right directions. And then, to completely contrast that sparkling image of them, the members discovered that the black cake parts had colored the inside of Umi and Genta’s mouths that same color. With vigorous laughter from fans and members alike, they quickly had some water on staff’s recommendation, and then Chaka spoke up to move them all on to the next section.

“JUST DANCE” under the towering lights of Shinjuku buildings was a unique experience. Their debut song has been performed in many different settings by now, but this one definitely gave it new vibes. Energetic and fun as always, but the surroundings and the outdoor venue added that little extra feeling.
Finally, “On My Road” was chosen to be the final song for the event set. A rocky pop song talking about the road Travis Japan and fans walk together, the dreams that await in the future, and, as dedicated to fans before the song began, “our thanks to all of you”.
It’s only the second CD single for Travis Japan, and this event provided both a celebration and a confirmation that there’s so much more to come. Stay on for the ride, I have no doubts Travis Japan will take you on an amazing journey!
