Live Report: For the love and appreciation of Takashi Nikaido

With reports of Nikaido not being in top condition the day before, it wasn’t a surprise that attending fans for the last day of the Kis-My-Ft2 Dome Tour 2024 Synopsis received a mail Sunday morning, 09 Sept, saying that he will not be present in the concert that day.  Although fans were sad that they wouldn’t be able to see him perform along with the other members, Nikaido’s health was still the top priority.

The understanding and love of fans was evident in the venue seeing penlights starting to light up in green even 30 mins before the concert.

At 16:00, amongst a sea of green penlights, Fujigaya, Senga, Tamamori, Yokoo and Miyata came out onto the main stage in black staff shirts to explain the situation and apologize. They said that they have decided to use canned audio for Nikaido’s parts instead of dividing those among themselves because Kis-My-Ft2 is 6 people and it would not be キスマイ if Nikaido’s presence was not there.

The concert started without a glitch after a couple of minutes of the “Kis My Go” call from the audience. In their first song “Loved One” you can see the spotlight for Nika present and his parts filled by his voice, as what they told the audience. This was also true in each song they performed; the carts, cranes, and places where Nika should have been were operated as normal.

Each member contributed in their own way to make the fans feel Nika’s presence in the concert. During the member’s introduction section Yokoo did Nika’s usual BUSAIKU greeting, and Fujigaya asked the audience to turn their penlights green before doing Nika’s gag, “Nika Nika, Nika Nika, Pyon pyon pyon!”

In the song “Connecting!!,” they even placed Nika’s uchiwa in the washing machine set that he usually comes out from. Another uchiwa was then used by Tamamori at the chorus where he and Nika were supposed to share the main screen. Tama-chan sang to the uchiwa lovingly.

In the MC, aside from the audience response levels to Miyata AICHI-teru yo~” and the needed “kanpai” time with the audience, they also highlighted that it was Nikaido who designed the stage and picked the set list for the concert.

The staff in turn focused the cameras on the picture of him that was part of the set with the members calling out “Takashi” and it became a gag throughout the MC. The members also did the plug of Nika’s YouTube channel and projects for him.

The second part of the concert ran smoothly with some delightful surprises like Tamamori appearing on stage for “B-SIDE” without an inner garment under his blazer, showing off his toned abs. The squeals for him were deafening. Same reaction was elicited by Miyata whenever the camera pans to him as he was also wearing nothing under his jacket and grinds suggestively during his parts. Eventually, Senga also opened his vest during “Catapult” to everyone’s delight.

The final encore of the tour was as lively as it can be. The five members came out with smiles on their faces and did their best to connect with the audience as much as they could with their energetic waves and sincere fan service. Fujigaya even brought out the small Nikamelon plush with him until the end of the show. And during the group name call at the end, Senga and Fujigaya had Nikamelon between, each holding one of its hands, completing the six members of Kis-My-Ft2.

As expected of a final show, the fans didn’t let them end the concert without a double encore. With the penlights lit in green, the audience shouted “Kis My Go” as loudly as they could. The members awkwardly came to the stage, joking saying that they didn’t know what to do or sing.

Miyata was holding Nikaido’s uchiwa and said that when they talked about what to do in case of a double encore, set list maker Nikaido decided they should end the tour with the song they opened the tour with “Loved One”, their signature song. The five sang the song with all their heart and Miyata let Nikaido’s uchiwa sing his part. The concert ended with them saying “See you next year!” and Tamamori leaving us with a final cute smirk before leaving the stage.

Sunday’s show was a wonderful finale for the tour and despite a member missing, the show was spectacular as expected from a Kis-My-Ft2 concert. Everybody gave it their all for two hours and 45 minutes. The five members present showed their professionalism by standing by the adage, “the show must go on”.
