KEY TO LIT are officially making their CD debut.
The five-member STARTO ENTERTAINMENT group โ Taisho Iwasaki, Mizuki Inoue, Reia Nakamura, Soya Igari, and Taiko Sasaki โ will make their CD debut through Universal Music this winter, with the news revealed as a complete surprise to both the members and fans on August 17.
The news was revealed during a fan-club-exclusive event at Daihonzan Zojoji in Tokyo, where projection mapping across the historic temple grounds announced the group’s debut to the five members and assembled fans. The event centred around the filming of the music video for their new song โKEY 2 LIGHT,โ streamed through the Junior YouTube channel. Instead, a countdown began across the illuminated temple, followed by footage tracing the membersโ individual journeys as Juniors. The final message revealed that KEY TO LIT would make their CD debut this winter through Universal Music.
The five were visibly overwhelmed by the announcement, embracing and crying together as the crowd congratulated them. For a group known for high-energy performances, sharp banter, and a deliberately unpredictable identity, it was a rare moment where several members struggled to find words.
And while KEY TO LIT themselves were only formed in February 2025, calling this a rapid debut would ignore a much longer story.
A new group built from more than a decade of experience
Every KEY TO LIT member has already spent more than ten years as a Junior.
Mizuki and Reia both joined in 2009, Soya in 2013, Taiko in May 2015, and Taisho later that October. By the time the five were brought together during the Junior group reorganisation in February 2025, each had already accumulated extensive experience across concerts, theatre, acting, television, variety, and individual projects.
That contrast has always been one of the most interesting things about KEY TO LIT: they are a relatively young group made up of performers who are anything but inexperienced.
Since forming, they have also moved quickly. The group currently appears on Fuji TV’s โPoka Pokaโ on a rotating basis, has served as TV Tokyo’s table tennis special supporters, and received its first terrestrial television variety special with โKITERETSU KITERU!?โ earlier this year.
But live performance has arguably been the clearest indication of how quickly the five have established KEY TO LIT as its own act.
From WAKE UP THE FOOL to NEO CLASSICS
KEY TO LIT are currently in the middle of their second nationwide arena tour, KEY TO LIT Arena Tour 2026 NEO CLASSICS, only a year after launching their first solo arena tour, WAKE UP THE FOOL.
The tour spans 21 performances across 13 dates in five cities, visiting Niigata, Hyogo, Tokyo, Fukuoka and Miyagi between July and October. With the Niigata and Kobe legs completed, the group will next take over Ariake Arena from August 20 to 23, followed by Marine Messe Fukuoka Hall A on October 3โ4 and Sekisui Heim Super Arena on October 9โ10.
When the tour was announced in May, KEY TO LIT described its central idea as bringing the classic and the new together: inheriting what has connected previous generations while adding their own character and creating something that can become a new tradition.
In hindsight, NEO CLASSICS feels particularly fitting for the position KEY TO LIT now find themselves in. They are entering a new phase without abandoning the years of experience โ and the STARTO performance traditions โ that brought each member here.
Already building a catalogue before debut
KEY TO LIT are also arriving at their debut with original songs that have already started defining what the group can be.
The most visible is โKITERETSU FIRE,โ their explosive self-introduction song first performed during WAKE UP THE FOOL. Built around individual sections introducing each member, the track mixes Japanese-inspired musical elements with rap, vocals, humour, and the group’s deliberately chaotic โKiteretsuโ identity. Its performance video has now surpassed 7.77 million views on YouTube.

There is also โBurn Down,โ another original that puts considerably more emphasis on their performance and dance abilities. Dumpling Box previously covered the song’s dance practice, offering a different side of the group from the theatrical chaos of โKITERETSU FIRE.โ
Their newest song, โKEY 2 LIGHT,โ adds another important first. Written as the theme song for TV Tokyo’s table tennis coverage, it became KEY TO LIT’s first tie-up song, with TV Tokyo describing it as an uptempo track built around the speed and momentum of the sport.
There is a certain appropriateness to โKEY 2 LIGHTโ becoming the backdrop to the debut announcement. As KEY TO LIT’s first tie-up song, it already represented another step beyond their original Junior catalogue; its MV event has now also become the point at which the group’s next chapter officially began.
Whether โKEY 2 LIGHTโ itself will form part of the debut release has not yet been announced, with the debut single’s title, release date, track list, and editions still to be revealed.
โThis is where we startโ: five different paths reaching the same debut
In their messages to fans after the reveal, that history came through clearly.
Taisho was still struggling to put the moment into words, but immediately credited the people who had supported them โ both those gathered at Zojoji and those watching the livestream. โItโs because of everyoneโs support that weโre able to make our CD debut,โ he said, promising that the group would give everything from here.
For Mizuki, the announcement represented both the fulfilment of a childhood dream and something more unusual. Looking back at everything the five members had individually fought through, he stressed that this was not a debut they had reached by themselves.
He also offered one of the most striking interpretations of what the announcement meant for KEY TO LIT: rather than treating debut as a finish line, Mizuki described it almost as a promise that these five members are now allowed to keep moving forward together as KEY TO LIT.

That feeling was echoed by Taiko, who repeatedly thanked fans for giving the members the energy to continue performing. For him, too, the debut represents the starting point rather than the culmination of KEY TO LIT’s story.
The announcement perhaps carried the longest history for Reia, who has now spent around 17 years as an idol. Reia admitted that it had taken a long time to reach this day, but looking back, he now feels those years were necessary.
His gratitude stretched beyond the members and fans to his family, colleagues, seniors, juniors, staff, and everyone who had been part of that journey. But characteristically, Reia also refused to turn the announcement entirely sentimental. Joking that fans had told him they wanted to live long enough to finally see him cry at his debut announcement, he declared that he still wouldn’t give them that moment just yet.
Because, as Reia put it, what KEY TO LIT really want people to see comes after the debut.
His closing declaration captured the group’s ambition particularly well:
โLetโs create an era together.โ
For Soya, however, holding back the tears proved impossible.
Introducing himself jokingly as โthe rather pitiful Soya Igari, who’s been crying nonstop,โ he admitted that he wished he could have prepared better words for something that would remain with him for the rest of his life.
His description of debut was particularly revealing. Soya compared his entire Junior career to the first phase of a race, saying that receiving the debut announcement finally felt like being told he had earned the right to pass through its gate.
That distinction mattered to him even after KEY TO LIT had already been entrusted with arena concerts, television appearances and opportunities that can make the dividing line between Junior and debuted artist appear increasingly blurred. People had told him that nothing would really change once the group debuted.
For Soya, that was never quite true.
Reaching the goal he had been running toward since joining the agency still meant something enormous.
Standing at Zojoji โ where the five had bowed toward the temple before beginning the event โ Soya ultimately credited neither fate nor divine intervention for getting them through that gate.
He credited the fans.
KEY TO LIT may have only existed for around a year and a half, and its five members arrived there after travelling very different paths, but their comments repeatedly returned to the same idea: debut does not simply close their Junior chapter. It finally gives the five a shared road forward.
With NEO CLASSICS currently underway, their original catalogue continuing to grow, and their first CD now ahead of them, KEY TO LIT are entering their next stage while still defining exactly what kind of group they want to become.
