Netflix will exclusively broadcast COUNTDOWN CONCERT 2026-2027 STARTO to WORLD, a year-end countdown concert featuring acts from STARTO ENTERTAINMENT, live globally for the first time on December 31.
The platform previously streamed WE ARE! Let’s get the party STARTO!! in 2024, a large-scale live event featuring the agency’s artists, and last year’s COUNTDOWN CONCERT 2025-2026 STARTO to MOVE — which brought together 12 groups and 73 performers — along with its behind-the-scenes companion, Behind the STARTO to MOVE.
The Countdown concert began in 1996 as a charity event supporting recovery efforts following the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, and has since become an annual tradition for artists and fans to close out and welcome the new year together. In 2026, it marks its 30th anniversary, and through Netflix’s livestream, people anywhere in the world will be able to enjoy the performances and count down to the new year in real time from Japan. It’s the first time the concert will stream live simultaneously worldwide, and a double first for Netflix: its first Japan-originated music live event, and its first-ever simultaneous global livestream of a Countdown concert.
Ever since its inception, Countdown has been a shared heartbeat for STARTO ENTERTAINMENT‘s massive family—an evening where boundaries between groups blur, where senpai and kouhai traditions shine, where inside jokes and unexpected pairings remind us that behind the polished sets are artists who have learned, laughed, fought, and grown together. From Marius falling right off the edge of the stage to ARASHI members sprinting from Kohaku to Tokyo Dome to everyone joining together to shout a birthday wish to Koichi Domoto, the event has been a backdrop to so many unforgettable memories. And fans can’t wait to see which ones they will cherish next.
Every group brings their own color, but what makes Countdown beloved is the way those colors blend. The whispered hope for an unexpected collaboration. The way senpai place reassuring hands on kouhai shoulders during the final minutes before the clock hits midnight. The collective shout of “three, two, one” that momentarily erases the distances between fandoms. Even for those who only follow a specific group, Countdown offers a rare glimpse into the full constellation of talent, each star illuminating the next.
Netflix’s stream will bring together top-level expertise and techniques in live-event video production from Japan and abroad, drawing on experience gained from producing numerous music programs and performances. The production team aims to create a uniquely Netflix visual experience that captures not only the scale of the entire stage, but also each artist’s individual expressions — and even the moments of excitement and energy generated inside the venue.
In addition to the main concert on December 31, there will also be a pre-show leading up to the event and a behind-the-scenes program following it. From the artist lineup announcement to the main show and what happens behind it, viewers get several different angles of the concert — including glimpses of the artists that won’t appear in the main broadcast.
