The charismatic King & Prince member will fulfill one of his deepest artistic aspirations, bringing a former dancer to life in a tale of redemption, art, and hope that will hit Japanese theaters in March of 2027

The entertainment landscape in Japan has been shaken by an announcement that fans have long dreamed of in silence. Kaito Takahashi, one of the industry’s most beloved, versatile, and magnetic faces, has been confirmed as the lead of his very first feature film: “Prism” (プリズム).
This project, which has a release date locked in for March 5, 2027 under the distribution of Culture Publishers, represents far more than another milestone in Kaito‘s prolific acting career; it is the culmination of a profound personal aspiration. For those of us who have closely followed every step of his journey, from his soul-stirring choreography to his critically acclaimed television drama roles, this announcement feels like a shared victory; a long-due recognition of his relentless artistic dedication.
When Movement Becomes the Only Possible Language
The story of “Prism” transports us to landscapes of melancholic and reflective beauty. At the heart of the narrative is Ritsu Okita (Kaito Takahashi), a young man who once dreamed of becoming a professional dancer. However, unforeseen blows dealt by life and invisible emotional wounds plunged him into a state of psychological blockage that stripped away what he loved most: the ability to dance.
Determined to escape the suffocating hustle and bustle of Tokyo, Ritsu embarks on a journey back to his hometown, the picturesque island of Shodoshima in Kagawa Prefecture, framed by the serene waters of the Seto Inland Sea. There, amidst a natural environment that sharply contrasts with the storm raging inside him, he desperately seeks a glimmer of peace and a pathway toward social reintegration to help him rebuild his shattered identity.
The turning point of the plot arrives when a former high school senior crosses his path with an unusual and challenging proposition: to become a dance instructor inside a very unique institution, a “prison without walls” (塀のない刑務所, an open correctional facility focused on rehabilitation where inmates selected for good behavior live in an environment of semi-liberty centered around work and community interaction). Through this rehabilitation program, Ritsu delves deep into a complex universe where thirteen inmates with dark pasts and armored hearts (portrayed by a talented cast that features Kotaro Daigo, Takenori Goto, and Yukito Hidaka) discover, through the rhythm and exhaustion of dance, an unexpected window toward redemption and dignity.
A Dream Come True: Dance as Refuge and Destiny
For Kaito, portraying Ritsu is not playing any ordinary character; it is channeling a fundamental part of his own life essence. Ever since his childhood, Kaito has maintained a symbiotic relationship with dance, turning it into his most honest language. His technical prowess has not only allowed him to shine on musical stages with King & Prince, but has also established him as a respected choreographer.
“Dance has saved me on countless occasions. Movies have saved me countless times too. That is why I always wished from the bottom of my heart to someday challenge myself in a dance-centric movie,” Kaito confessed with sincere emotion upon the announcement of the project. “That dream I envisioned for so long has finally come true in this work titled ‘Prism’. I poured my body and soul into the filming, approaching each scene with the firm conviction that this movie will surely save someone.”
What makes this connection even more poetic and thrilling for fans is the special participation of NOPPO, a member of the influential dance performance group s**t kingz, on the production team. NOPPO served as Kaito‘s dance instructor during his childhood, turning this collaboration into a reunion of profound significance — a true mentor-and-disciple bond brought to the big screen to breathe life into the feature’s most demanding and emotive choreography.
A Shoot of Absolute Dedication: Physical Effort and Acting Chemistry
Executing a production of this magnitude required an extraordinary level of physical and mental commitment from the entire crew. The actors playing the inmates, who, both in fiction and in reality, had to undergo a rigorous transformation process — including close-cropped crew cuts — started largely from scratch in the field of dance.
This meant that for two and a half months prior to principal photography, the cast immersed themselves in intense practice sessions under the guidance of NOPPO and the constant supervision of Kaito. Far from limiting himself to his starring role, Kaito displayed an impeccable work ethic, even utilizing his days off to practice independently, polish every movement, and foster group harmony.
The film’s director, Yuji Haryu, who marks his feature film directorial debut with this project, spared no praise for his leading man: “Ritsu Okita is a young man who has been deeply hurt within society and believed he had no place to belong. Yet, everyone deserves to find a space and way of living that suits them. With that sentiment, I began shaping this story. Takahashi-san approached his role as an actor and artist with unwavering passion from start to finish. It was thanks to his creative ideas and wonderful human character that the project was able to reach its finest form,” Haryu emphasized. The screenplay skillfully balances the rawness of the open prison setting with the liberating catharsis of bodily art.
From the moment the first teaser poster and video preview were unveiled, revealing Ritsu‘s profile gazing at a distant light while his silhouette leaps powerfully in an evocative frame, social media was flooded with messages of unconditional support from the fandom. For the community of Tiaras, seeing Kaito take on this monumental challenge confirms the artistic maturity he has worked so hard to achieve. “Prism” is not just an inspirational movie; it is a visual metaphor of how white light, when passing through a prism, breaks down into a gorgeous array of vibrant colors. In the same way, the characters in this story, broken by various circumstances, manage to refract their pain through art to discover a brand-new spectrum of colors within their existence.
With a fresh premise, a deeply moving human background, the sensitive direction of Yuji Haryu, and the overflowing talent of a Kaito Takahashi who has dedicated body and soul, “Prism” is already shaping up to be one of the most significant cinematic events of the upcoming year in Japan.
With expectations through the roof, the certainty that we are witnessing a work crafted from the purest love for art and empathy invites us to count down the days. On March 5, 2027, TOHO Cinemas Hibiya and theaters nationwide will open their doors to show us that even when the body feels incapable of moving, the spirit always finds a crack through which to shine once again. Wishing you tremendous success on this historic leading role debut, Kaito!
