Naniwa Danshi’s Unit Song Evolution: From Cute to Sexy

Naniwa Danshi released their 4th studio album BON BON VOYAGE on July 2nd, 2025. An album celebrating their musical journey since their debut and the foreseeable future with their fans.

With a total of 19 songs, this album has songs across different genres. This trend continues into their unit songs too. Just like their previous album +Alpha, BON BON VOYAGE also includes 3 unit songs with brand new units! The units this time were inspired by the member divisions in the music video of Diamond Smile from their first album, 1st Love.

The included unit songs are “Devil or Angel,” “TOYSTYLE,” and “ADULTY.” These tracks not only showcase the unique personalities and growth of the members but also present distinct visual and emotional growth as artists. From duality and desire to playful nostalgia and grown-up seduction, each song offers a new flavor of the members, and the fans are loving it. The unit songs are included in the Limited Edition 2 of the album!

“Devil or Angel,” performed by Shunsuke “Mitchy” Michieda and Kyohei Takahashi, is a dance track, a seductive take of the battle between good and evil, tenderness and temptation. The song has intense, dramatic instrumentals that complement the theme of a tug-of-war between an angel and devil, hell and heaven. The theme is more emphasized not only through the dramatic music video drenched in shadow and light but also through the drastic difference between the vocals of Mitchy and Kyohei.

Mitchy‘s rather soft vocals, along with Kyohei’s robust vocals, enhance the mood even more. Mitchy is often associated with softer songs like “Aoharu ~With U With Me~,” so this is definitely a change in image for him. Whereas Kyohei continues to live up to his bad boy, devil image. One of the key points of the song has to be the rap in the second verse. The rap elevates the song even more.

As for the music video, Mitchy’s pure, ethereal aura contrasts perfectly with Kyohei’s cool intensity, creating a visual and emotional push-pull that’s both compelling and sexy. Mitchy and Kyohei very conveniently having contrasting hair colors really adds to the imagery of the music video. Their dance, particularly during the dance break, is definitely the highlight of the music video. Especially for Kyohei, considering dance is not his best stat. Nevertheless, he gave his best, and it is very much visible in all kinds of positive ways.

Combining everything, it’s a music video that will make you watch it on repeat. Let’s be real, you don’t want to skip over a michikyohe moment, and “Devil or Angel” is 3 minutes 51 seconds of michikyohe goodness. The fans have been raving about Mitchy and Kyohei’s insane chemistry since the teaser drop. Their chemistry was so intense that it could set the screen on fire. When asked during the unit’s Instagram live about which scene Mitchy and Kyohei are more excited about, Mitchy said it’s the part where they had to do silhouettes behind a red screen. Something to look forward to for the fans who are yet to watch the music video!

After the intense tug-of-war in “Devil or Angel,” we have “TOYSTYLE,” performed by Ryusei “Ryuche” Onishi and Kento Nagao. A really playful hip-hop track. With the combined effort of both Ryuche and Nagao, “TOYSTYLE” is a full-on burst of sunshine and bubblegum-colored joy, truly a candy-coated dreamland.

Set against multiple backdrops of whimsical visuals and arcade-inspired aesthetics, the track radiates youthful energy and charm. The clever use of CGI during the rooftop scene of the music video adds to the fantasy toy box theme. Ryuche’s upbeat, high-energy cutesy style leads the way, while Kento’s laid-back cool charisma provides the perfect balance.

The MV is pure dopamine with neon lights, confetti bursts, oversized toy props, and choreography that looks as fun to perform as it is to watch. The marionette dance in the chorus is one of the key points of the music video. Ryuche demonstrated the dance in Naniwa Danshi’s weekly corner Naniwa Douga, on MezamashiTV, highlighting the doll-like choreography that was developed by imagining dancing dolls.

Another thing to notice in the music video is the vast collection of outfits throughout the music video, which in itself is a visual treat. The costumes, accessories, and make-up were all chosen by Ryuche and Kento themselves. There are a total of 3 outfits for each of them, each very different from one another, yet somehow they all work out.

This music video displays the creativity of Ryuche and Kento to its fullest, as expected from the creative powerhouse of the group. Kento carries the outfits, Ryuche brings in the fun and whimsy. Peanut butter’s (Ryuche-Kento pair name) naturally bright personalities shine through every frame, turning “TOYSTYLE” into a much-needed pop sugar rush.

Then we have “ADULTY” by Daigo Nishihata, Joichiro “Joe” Fujiwara, and Kazuya “Hassun” Ohashi. The big brothers were not playing when they said they were going to show the charm of adults in the music video.

“ADULTY” is a mature retro-pop track inspired by ‘70s disco-pop, especially with the prominent use of trumpet, trombone, and saxophone, which gives it a brassy yet sensual and moody feel. The line distribution is very cleverly done, which gives each member an equal amount of time to show their musical charm. Daigo’s buttery, slightly deep yet sweet tone, Jo-kun with his silky sultry sweet tone, and Hassun’s husky and powerful singing voice, these differences in all their vocals combined to deliver a graceful yet sexy song.

The music video is set in a sleek, sensual world painted in dark, deep hues that lean into mature visuals. From candlelit scenes and silky bed sheets to the now-iconic steamy shower sequence with Daigo. Yeah, you read that right, there is a full shower scene in the music video that will leave your jaw on the ground. Not only that, Jo-kun brings sultry elegance with his cool vocals and visuals. Jo-kun in that silk shirt on the bed with silk bed sheets gave away a major throwback to his “Plastic Tears” performance during Naniwa Danshi Shika Katan concert. On the other hand, Hassun tied the trio with smooth vocals and charismatic subtlety. Together, they delivered the sexiest unit song that you could’ve ever imagined from Naniwa Danshi.

Let’s not forget about the choreography. As sexy as the song is, the choreography is equally as graceful, with a hint of a seductive approach. The way they change the center position by rotating every time amongst the three of them is very pleasing to watch. The music video did a phenomenal job at showcasing ani-gumi’s dancing skills and their insane synchronization. The pacing, the styling, the overall mood of the song, and the music video all come together to form a visual and sonic experience that is completely different from the group’s usual high-energy image, showing how far they’ve come since their debut. They made a major jump from their innocent image from “UBU LOVE” to an insane dark, mature, and sexy front. It’s almost as if they’re telling us to look at the adult-like side to them as well, ‘cause, well, despite their deceivingly young visuals, they are adults, really fine ones at that.

All these units are very different from one another; together, these three unit songs serve as emotional and aesthetic pit stops on the journey that is BON BON VOYAGE. “Devil or Angel” tempts with duality and desire, “TOYSTYLE” delights with playful hip-hop fun, and “ADULTY” seduces with elegant maturity.

More than just unit songs, these tracks feel like carefully curated showcases of each member’s current identity and future potential. For longtime fans, they’re a reward, while for new ones, they’re a reason to stay. With bold concepts and standout performances, Naniwa Danshi proves that they’re not just growing up, they’re glowing up, and they’re ready to face whatever is waiting for them in their journey.
