Naniwa Danshi's 'Never Romantic': A Hilariously Cute Love Story

Leave it to Naniwa Danshi to be completely cluelessly cute when it comes to love in their latest single, “Never Romantic!”

The music video reads like a manga, all set at the Naniwa Academy, with a group of best friends who all fall head over heels in love with the new student.

There’s only one problem: their “crush” isn’t a girl at all, but an earnest little robot—adorably rigid, hilariously unresponsive, and completely unable to process the emotions they’re offering: love.

However, forever the optimists, Naniwa Danshi, throw themselves into the chase anyway, bumping into each other, tripping over their own eagerness, as they scramble to impress her in ways only the Naniwa lucky boys can. It’s slapstick devotion sprinkled with chaos, reminding you that friendship and longing can be two sides of the same messy, glittering coin.

But when danger arrives in the form of a giant evil robot—the tone deepens. Roboko, the robot they’ve been crushing on, saves the boys, but at what cost… The video also leans into the old trope that while romance can be fleeting—the power of friendship is forever!
