While the fascinating moments from last June’s special broadcast are still fresh in our memories, the exciting news that we’ve all been waiting for are finally here. Kaito Takahashi, a member of King & Prince, is making his grand return as the co-host (“MC”) of TV Tokyo’s hit variety special “Somosomo Mystery” (そもそもミステリー), as its second episode is scheduled to air on November 12.

For this new installment, Kaito will once again team up with the charismatic Atsuhiro Tsuda of the hilarious comedy duo Diane. The pair already showcased incredible, effortless chemistry during the first broadcast, which focused on the hidden chambers of Tutankhamun’s tomb. Their natural dynamic brought endless smiles to viewers, turning complex historical curiosities into a fresh, accessible, and deeply entertaining experience.
If the show’s debut took us deep into the secrets of Ancient Egypt, this second episode hits closer to home with a uniquely bizarre and captivating theme: Japan’s Three Major “Hole” Mysteries (“ana”). The production team and investigators will guide viewers through three iconic, history-rich locations filled with architectural wonder:
- Gunkanjima (Battleship Island), a striking symbol of Japan’s industrial era enveloped in a dense atmosphere of the past.
- The Mighty Kurobe Dam, a monumental engineering feat tucked deep within the Japanese Alps that holds incredible secrets beneath its foundations.
- The Underground Labyrinth of Tokyo Station, a hidden world pulsing beneath the feet of thousands of daily commuters who rarely suspect what lies beneath.
To ensure absolute accuracy and depth, the show will once again feature distinguished academic experts, including Kogakuin University Professor Shiro Ouchida, Gunkanjima cultural evangelist Eiki Kurosawa, and Hosei University Professor Toshiaki Mizobuchi. Like any great television event, Kaito and Tsuda won’t be alone in the studio. This time around, they will be joined by stellar guest panelists Nao Kosaka from Hinatazaka46 and the ever-charismatic Chiriko Sakashita, both of whom will add their lively reactions and witty insights to the unfolding mysteries.

In addition, as an exciting new feature to this second episode, the show will debut a special segment guaranteed to deliver unforgettable moments: “Adult Representative Tsuda VS Child Squad Members! Somosomo Quiz Showdown!” (大人代表・津田VS子供隊員! そもそもクイズ対決!). In this segment, Tsuda will face off in a head-to-head battle of wits against five talented, sharp-minded kids from the child squad (Nanako Ishizuka, Kousei Naito, Seina Hayashi, Kyuta Banka, and Risa Masuda), under Kaito‘s watchful, cheerful eye as the ultimate judge and host.
Comment by Kaito Takahashi
“This episode was truly educational, and I learned so much history that made me realize once again just how amazing Japan is. Since human entry is virtually impossible at Gunkanjima nowadays, being able to see its current state was extremely precious. Boldly stepping into places where cameras usually aren’t allowed is what this show is all about.
Having Tsuda-san right next to me is always so fun that I spent the whole time enjoying the footage as if I were just watching TV at home. It’s a program where you can enjoy learning the ‘origins’ of mysteries around the world through lots of fun quizzes alongside us and the child squad, so I’d be thrilled if you watch it together with your family, friends, or just relaxed on your own!”
Comment by Atsuhiro Tsuda
“My duo with Kaito-kun is so strong you could almost call us the ‘New King & Prince’ (laughs). Saying ‘this might actually be the real King & Prince’ would probably get me flamed online, so I won’t go that far. But that’s how I feel in my heart, working alongside him thinking of him as my partner.
Tokyo Station, Gunkanjima, Kurobe Dam, these are all places everyone knows, but it’s so educational to realize, ‘There were still mysteries hidden here?’ It’s the kind of super educational mystery variety show that makes you want to share what you learned with your friends the next day… it even had some drama! There are quizzes too. It’s a wonderful program packed with every genre imaginable. Please join in and try to figure out the answers along with us!”

Watching Kaito in his element as a host is always a treat for the fandom. His natural warmth, genuine sense of wonder toward every little piece of trivia, and sweet sense of humor transform any format into a cozy space—perfect for watching alongside family or unwinding alone after a long day. “Somosō Mystery” has truly carved out a niche as an educational yet utterly fun program, the kind that makes you want to rush out and share what you’ve learned with friends the next day.
Mark your calendars: on November 12, TV Tokyo’s screens will light up with mystery, laughter, and the undeniable charm of Kaito Takahashi, one of Japan’s most popular figures today. There is no doubt he is ready to capture our hearts all over again!
