Ae! group’s “Destiny”: More than Enough

With the release of their latest music video โ€œDestiny,โ€ Ae! group invites us into a world suspended in longingโ€”aching, wordless, and impossibly close.

โ€œDestinyโ€ is a rock ballad painted in raw emotion. The lyrics are straightforward yet piercing, unraveling the frustration of loving someone so deeply but being unable to bridge the distance between hearts. That pain, that desire to speak and still falling shortโ€”it echoes through every note. And the MV doesnโ€™t shy away from these emotions; instead, it leans into them fully.

Serving as the theme song for the drama Musashino Rondoโ€”which stars member Yoshinori Masakado in his first romance lead roleโ€””Destiny” isnโ€™t just a ballad. Itโ€™s an emotional plunge into a love thatโ€™s lived in silence for too long.

From the first frame, the music video is minimalist, akin to prior Ae! group MVs. There’s no requirement for extravagant CGI or propsโ€”it’s just them and the music.

The members stand apart in a vast, empty spaceโ€”as if occupying their own isolated hearts. The simplicity of the set makes every expression, every shift in light, feel heavier. Thereโ€™s a haunting beauty to the way theyโ€™re positioned: so close, yet too far. It reflects a love that lives quietly in the shadows, waiting for a moment that never seems to come.

The palette is dark, but not cold. It broods, not with sadness, but with yearning. The kind of emotional weight that doesnโ€™t scream, but lingersโ€”quiet, heavy, persistent.

Their outfits strike a delicate balance between understated cool and refined dramaโ€”casual yet carefully curated. Thereโ€™s a distinct rock-inspired edge in the silhouettes and layeringโ€”much fitting for the songs genreโ€”grounding the visuals in something raw and emotionally present.

At the same time, subtle high-end touches elevate the styling: clean lines, luxe textures, and just the right amount of elegance. Itโ€™s the kind of styling that doesnโ€™t distract from the message, but enhances itโ€”quietly saying that even in their most vulnerable moments, Ae! group stands bold and unapologetically themselves.

As the song progresses, soft golden light filters in through scattered moments, casting each member in a fleeting, nostalgic glow. Those amber flashes feel like memoriesโ€”soft and warm, but untouchable. Hopeful, but not quite real.

They stand in stark contrast to the sharp, flashing cuts of the members drenched in waterโ€”drenched in longing. Thereโ€™s a raw vulnerability in those shots: soaked hair clinging to skin, expressions caught somewhere between desperation and resolve.

The golden light remembers what once was or what could be; the rain-soaked images confront what isโ€”aching, unresolved, impossible to ignore.

And then comes the rain for realโ€”like emotions you can no longer hold back. A downpour that breaks through hesitation, where everything youโ€™ve buried is suddenly laid bare. Itโ€™s the moment when you stop pretending, stop waiting, and finally dare to reach for the love you’ve always been afraid to lose.

Itโ€™s not dramatic for the sake of visuals. Itโ€™s vulnerable.

Each of them hold flower bouquets, waterlogged, fragile, yet still beautiful in their brokenness, and it’s a nice reference to the drama’s visual promotion posters.

The flowers arenโ€™t just propsโ€”they feel like physical manifestations of the feelings carried, held, and never fully given voice. Each bloom holds meaning, a subtle extension of the songโ€™s emotional undercurrent.

While there has been no official confirmation, the flowers most likely featured in the bouquets include sweet pea, nigella, red, pink, and blue carnations, pink mini carnations, pink statice, red and white roses, blue and white lisianthus, spray roses, and possibly dried achillea. Their selection, whether intentional or instinctive, adds a layer of silent storytelling that pairs seamlessly with the songโ€™s and drama’s emotional palette.

The sweet pea, often associated with delicate farewells, fleeting affection, and gratitude for a beautiful time, evokes the lingering traces of a love that was never quite allowed to bloom. The Nigella, sometimes called โ€œLove-in-a-Mist,โ€ represents deep emotions, dreams, secrets, and complexityโ€”perfectly mirroring the tangled emotions of proximity without clarity.

And perhaps the most quietly powerful inclusion is pink staticeโ€”a flower that symbolizes remembrance and lasting affection, but also memories that donโ€™t fade. Its delicate texture contrasts with its emotional weight, often used to convey enduring feelings that remain unchangedโ€”eternalโ€”over time.

In the context of “Destiny,” it feels like a soft but unwavering promise: no matter how much time passes, no matter how long the silence lingers, the feeling hasnโ€™t faded.

Carnations in shades of red, pink, and blue appear throughoutโ€”symbols of admiration, love, and respect. Pink carnations also represent unforgettable love, while the blue ones reflect a more melancholic sincerity through unattainable love, but also eternal love or loyalty. The pink mini carnations add a softer, almost childlike tenderness, matching their size to accompany the rest of the symbolisms.

Red and white roses, traditionally representing love and unityโ€”white roses also symbolize purity, new beginnings, remembranceโ€”seem to hint at both the divide and the yearning for something more.

Lisianthus adds another layer entirely. The blue lisianthus offers calm, trust, and enduring connectionโ€”but also unspoken feelings, while the white lisianthus, often associated with purity and heartfelt emotion. They feel like the quiet confession never quite spoken aloud. Together, they hold space for both the depth of feeling and the fragility of hope.

While the presence of spray roses adds texture to the arrangementsโ€”small, delicate, yet persistent with a symbolism of gratitude, affection, and gentle devotion.

And perhaps, if dried achillea is indeed included, it introduces the concept of remembrance and emotional healing, and more fittingly to the drama: holding onto the past. A flower that doesnโ€™t wither easily, even when driedโ€”it endures, much like the feelings this song clings to.

These bouquetsโ€”drenched by rain and held with such quiet intensityโ€”are not just poetic. Theyโ€™re storytelling. They represent the fragility of a love too long unspoken, and the strength it takes to hold on to that love through changing seasons, even when fleeting hope and dreams are the only things keeping it alive.

Their vocal performance in “Destiny” is emotional and raw, with each member’s unique vocal color shining through in their solo lines and harmonies. While Seiya typically takes the lead as the groupโ€™s main vocalistโ€”often carrying the most lines with his soaring voiceโ€”thereโ€™s something refreshing about seeing Masakado stand at the center this time. It makes sense, of courseโ€”this song ties directly into the drama he leads.

But more than that, it solidifies something fansโ€”and the members themselvesโ€”have always seen: that Masakado and Seiya stand as the undeniable double-centers of Ae! group.

Seiya isnโ€™t taking a backseat by any means. He remains ever-present, taking on the harmonies with an elegant touch. For many, being assigned harmonies might seem like being pushed aside, often seen as secondaryโ€”but for Seiya, or any of the other members, itโ€™s the opposite. His harmonies highlight his exceptional vocal sensitivity, his ability to blend seamlessly with each memberโ€™s tone while still anchoring the performance with emotional resonance. Each note that the members sing hold significance and builds the song into something undeniably Ae! group.

Thereโ€™s a certain raw emotion in Masakadoโ€™s voice that doesnโ€™t always come through in studio recordingsโ€”something usually more palpable in their live performances. But in “Destiny,” his voice carries a different kind of weight. Itโ€™s a controlled rawness: holding back just enough to let the emotion simmer beneath the surface, rather than spilling over like it often does live. This restraint only adds to the emotional tension of the songโ€”and of his character in the drama. Itโ€™s subtle, but it hits.

The arrangement also beautifully makes space for Seiyaโ€™s signature high notes, soaring with clarity, while Masaya finds space in his higher register tooโ€”delivering each line with quiet confidence and that polished vocal tone fans have come to rely on. Itโ€™s a delicate balanceโ€”one that speaks to the groupโ€™s evolving vocal maturity, and how each member continues to grow into their own sound, while still sounding distinctly like Ae! group.

There’s just emotionโ€”honest, aching, and bare.

Itโ€™s no surprise that โ€œDestinyโ€ was chosen to accompany Musashino Rondo. The drama itself explores the complexity of unrequited love, with Masakado playing Ryuhei Agawaโ€”a quiet, reserved man who has spent over a decade loving his neighbor from afar.

A love thatโ€™s been rejected, brushed aside, and yet never disappeared. A love that, after ten years, finally begins to stir again.

What makes “Destiny” hit so deeply is how restrained it is. It doesnโ€™t try to fix the ache. It doesnโ€™t pretend that longing is neat or simple.

It lets it sit. It lets it rain.

And in doing so, it captures something so achingly human: the experience of loving, fully and quietly, even when thereโ€™s no promise of being loved back.

The emotional synergy between the song and story is seamless. Masakado himself commented, “This song is a heartfelt rock ballad that expresses the passionate emotions of a clumsy love that doesnโ€™t go as planned.
Itโ€™s very much in the style ofย Ae! group, and at the same time, it perfectly deepens the emotional image ofย
โ€˜Musashino Rondoโ€˜. I truly believe itโ€™s the perfect match for the drama.

Thereโ€™s something poetic about Masakado performing this song with his groupโ€”for a story he breathes life into onscreen. It fills you with an overwhelming pride.

It feels full circle. Like destiny, even.

Destiny” isnโ€™t loud. It’s not a statement like “ใ€ŠAใ€‹BEGINNING,” not a declaration like “Gotta Be,” nor a song of resilience like “Hello.” But it echoes, and lingers. And maybe, like the drama itself, it leaves us wondering about the love we havenโ€™t dared to voice yetโ€”the one we still carry, quietly, like flowers in the rain.

Ae! group shows once again why theyโ€™re more than just idolsโ€”theyโ€™re artists with a story to tell. Through music, through visuals, through silence.

They’re here to steal us away, right here, right now.
